Hello all.
Some of you will know me, some of you newer members might not but I have been a long time member & contributer of Clie know-how to this great site.
I have finally decided to leave the PalmOS/Clie world for good. :(
I simply just don't use my TH-55 anymore. As many of you longtime members here know it has served me well. Basically all of the PIM functions that I used my TH55 for are now handled by my most awesome RAZR V3xx (unlocked 3G International version...a.k.a KICK AZZ phone!).
I have ALL the original materials:
Box
Manuals
Cables
Installation CD
Original Recipt
I'm asking $200 (shipping included within the Ol' US of A) for this most legandary of TH-55's :D
It's in great shape considering all the use it's gotten. Screen is also in EXCELLENT condition. It's funny, when I whip it out on the Subway (my TH55, that is :p ) people think it's an iPhone!
Anyhoo, drop me a PM if you're interested.
And if any of you newbie's are unsure about this offer 'cos you don't know me (I haven't been around for a good while), the co-founder of this site (Joel) can personally vouch for me. Won't ya now Joel?? ;)

Very nice to see all these old familiar names again! :)
I hope the iPhone can provide the integration I'm looking for.
It's ironic: The TH55 was basically an iPhone 3.5+ years ago...simply minus the phone part. Size, screen dimensions, multimedia capabilities...a lot of features are quite similar between them.
The TH55 was really a ground breaker. It will always hold a special place in my techie heart. :p

I'm shocked... There's a while I do not stop by, I recognize, but when I came back saw some sad news.
My TH-55 is still working, except for the camera. It has just started giving me that erros message. For what I understood reading other threads it is a hardware problem? I could not find any other explanation/solution.
After all these years I am not yet sold on those smart(dumb) phones. I used a Blackberry because of a previous job and hated it. It was a lame phone mixed with a poor excuse of a PDA.
The problem I have with iPhones and other the like is that we (owners) do not actually own them. That is, we cannot freely install any application we want or do our tweaks. Excuse is that they could compromise the network.
Right... so anything we want to install must be purchased and approved by "Big Brother" who then knows everything we do, whom we talk with, etc.
Stepping down the soap box now.
I am considering two alternatives to replace my beloved TH-55 (not decided when yet, though).
A) HP RX 5900 Travel Companion (http://reviews.cnet.com/pdas/hp-ipaq-rx5900-travel/4505-3127_7-32079581.html) . This unit has a GPS and is nicely engineered to run multimedia and other apps.
B) New Nokia N810 (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071017/wr_nm/nokia_internet_dc), which seems to be a next gen TH-55.
Anyone had any experience with HP's stuff or the Nokia N800 (previous version of the N810)?
Anyways... nice to be back.
Cheers!

The iPhone has been 'Liberated' from the grips of the Death Star (a.k.a. AT&T)for quite a while now Rossi. We can now install all kinds of apps & goodies.

Howdy!
I read about it. But it seems Darth Vader (Apple) and the Death Star (AT&T) plotted an upgrade that messed-up the phone and several stopped working. I read about a fix to the cark but apparently it was not fully guaranteed.
Isn't it much better buying something that is already designed to be an open device? Nokia is Linux-based and HP is Pocked PC, both fairly open. Pocket PC, with all issues many people complain about has tons of applications available.
In the iPhone case, unless the phone is successfully cracked, they have to go through the blessing of Darth and the Empire.

Yup, even Family Guy (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/clips/family-guy-explains-the-death-star-flaw-310583.php) has something to say about the Death Star ;)
(but yes, my next phone would be an iPhone)

Hi,
I say we resurrect the "Real" offtopic forum here to lure Winexprt and Tixx back here on a fulltime basis.
Winexprt, where you been hanging out since the demise of said offtopic forum?

Welcome back :)
I'd say wait it out. The N800 isn't out yet, and HP will release new products early next year. Also, Nokia is preparing a touch screen version of their S60 platform. Since TH55s live long, I guess it won't hurt to wait for the release of those HPs and Nokia, then try them out. I've saw too many gadgets that look so nice on websites but deeply disappointed me after trying them out.
By the way, this seems like another thread of "the gathering of the old timers", nice memories from Clie source... Discussions were much more exciting back then.

I'm playing with my iPhone now. :D
It has small screen, about the size of my UX50. :(

Is it just a loose connection/flakey solder join?
That is/was a very common problem in TH55s.
ALL of the TH55s with "Multimedia System Error" popup messages that I have repaired have bad camera modules. 6 out of 20 TH55s that I currently own, including the one from winexprt, have bad camera modules. I can fix all of them by simply replacing the modules.
I am no longer fixing TH55 camera modules for this reason, i.e., lack of supplies. I have lots of LCDs and the rest of TH55 parts, though.
If any of you are looking for TH55s, ask the sellers if the camera is working. I think this is the next weak point of TH55, besides the fragility of its huge LCD.
