I received an email this morning from Laridian (http://www.laridian.com) stating that MyBible v3.0 has been released. Some of the new features:
NEW! Add your own notes to any verse
NEW! Highlight Bible text in a variety of colors (underline for monochrome devices)
NEW! View the words of Christ in red (in most Bible translations)
IMPROVED! Tap footnote markers to view translator footnotes
IMPROVED! Change your preferences to adjust layout and scrolling of Bible text. Surprisingly, the one killer feature not mentioned is that it displays full-screen on my NX70V! Excellent! Still only has the three "standard" font choices, but that's OK for me.
Can't wait to put it through its paces!
The upgrade is $5.00 and you need to re-download you Bible versions as they have been updated, but there is no upgrade charge for your Bibles, just the MyBible app.
Very cool!!!

MyBible 3.0 is now available (www.laridian.com) with new versions of most Bibles. New features include: Jesus' words in red text, ability to highlight/underline passages, ability to add notes, HiRes+ support. Upgrade is just $5.

Actually, it was posted here in the NX forum earlier but that post is now curiously missing (hmmm.....conspiracy?)...
In order to receive the $5.00 upgrade, you must have a discount code. Even though I am a longtime Laridian customer I did not receive the code via email - but alas, one simple phone call and they gave me my code.
Cheers, Rich

I cross-posted it in both the Apps and the NX forums, so I'm guessing that the moderators probably just got rid of the one in the NX forum because this is the appropriate place for it.

Their server must be hammered right now! :( I just bought it and have been trying for an hour to get to the download page with a constant hang! Laridian . . . you need more bandwidth!!!
yes, I think their site has been crashed

Any one tried it on their NZ yet? It's not running on mine.... Wishin' they had a trial period now... Support got right back with me though! Hope I can get it to run. Really would like Hires+!

It took me forever to get to the download page to get the updates, but I'm glad I did. So far, very nice.
I'm really pleased they now have The Message available.

Yup. Took me a while to download this morning too.
I must say that this program is sweet! It's very fast, full-screen, and the note-taking and highlighting features are excellent.
Here's a tip: I couldn't figure out how to "unhighlight" a highlighted section. Apparantly, you just change the highlight color to "white" (the far right color) and the highlighting goes away. Yes, it's in the manual, but who reads those anyway!?!

Does anyone have the problem of words (two or three almost every page) looking chopped up?

I must have downloaded it when it just came out (which would have been early morning in the US time for you guys).
Even then, the download was sloooow.
But it was worth upgrading to get the ESV and a few of the versions are now free.

Not so far. The italicized text in the footnotes looks very ragged (unsmooth) but no problems yet on the main pages.

It must be the freeware translations. I tried uninstalling everything, redownloaded everything, and still get this annoying error. It looks like a horizontal line cut through the words about 1/3 from the top with the tops slightly shifted to the right. It's a few words here and there, many in all, and all through the Bible in every chapter and book.

The Italics text in MyBible on my NX70V is exactly as you describe.

That's pretty lame! :) Another bug is when I do a "/h" to toggle the "Highligter" bar, it appears momentarily and then disappears. If it is on and I do a "/h" it will not go away. I have to use the drop down menu to toggle it! :(

No problem that I can see with the words of Christ in red.
I have the same highlighter problem - it comes and goes after I do a "/h". If I get rid of it, it comes back until I tap to page down. If I do another "/h" it appears, then disappears, then reappears after I tap to page down!!

OK, I finally got through the wait at their site, but am having a serious problem. I tap to launch MyBible and all I get is a white screen of death lockup. I beamed it to the Zire 71 I am reviewing and it works fine.
Has anyone else experienced this and do you have any tips for resolution? I am excited to see this app in HiRes+ and want to be able to read my Bibles on my commute. Thanks for your help or suggestions.

Palmsolo, I get the white screen 'o death too. Wonder if it's an app that's causing the conflict? I'm using an NZ90. Support was prompt and they said they check into it, though $10 for a white screen is a bit steep...:(

I just did a hard reset and then a restore and still get the white screen. I do have about 50+ apps loaded on my device since I am something of a PDA addict and my next step is to hard reset and then just beam MyBible from the Zire 71 to see if it works. I guess I will then have to go through a process of elimination to find the conflicting application when I have the time.

What Bible version are you using? The Message, for instance, does not have the words of Christ in red even if the option is checked in preferences.

"It's important that you delete all of your previous MyBible versions in order to ensure that MyBible will work as expected. I just downloaded the WEB translation (free) and it is better than the ASV and KJV in that it has no "attempted italicized words," and it uses the footnote feature. It's looking more and more like I'll buy a translation (NIV), but want to trial this app a while with minimum investment ($10 so far!). Hope this helps some of ya! ;)

One other thing to add to the list wellsjs has provided:
If you bring up MyBible wthout any books installed you get the white screen and may have to do a soft reset. Install a translation and that problem goes away. (At least it did on my NX70/V)

I am using the new version. I like it. It's great to be able to add notes to verses. And, I love being able to simple tap on the little blue circle to see footnotes.
Highlighting is a great feature, but mine doesn't work. I can drag to highlight the text, but as soon as I lift the stylus, the highlighting is gone. It just doesn't stick!

I had two Bible translations installed to my MemoryStick and had the MyBible program installed to RAM. I keep getting the white screen. Did you load the translations directly into RAM to get it to work? If so, did you try moving them to a MS using PowerRun? If you have them on the MS successfully, in which folder are the translations stored? Thanks for the help.

A longish reply to palmsolo...
I keep MyBible in RAM. Do not use a VFS manager to do this (I rarely use VFS managers since most programs use a default location in MS or you can select a directory).
All my translations of the Bible was kept under /Palm/Programs/MyBible this is the folder which MyBible will reference to for translations. The other area is /Palm/Launcher - but it gets messy with all your other programs.
There is a noticable slowdown in starting up MyBible when the translations are kept in MS. The reason why is that they have combined 8 modules into 4 with footnotes. So each module is a lot larger - I am not sure whether this is a good idea...
I have also noticed that it takes up to 20 seconds for MyBible to reference the other versions on MS (I have about 6 versions on MS). So starting up MyBible and tapping on another translation - there is a long delay before it pops up a translation list (Damn! When is the 64M Palm PDA coming out! :) ).
A couple of suggestions to keep MyBible running at the optimum speed:
1) Use FastCPU - max out the speed! :)
2) If you can afford the space in RAM (about 1.3M), keep your preferred translation in RAM (and a copy in MS). When MyBible starts up, there is a 2-4 second delay in firing up since it needs to locate the tranlsation from MS and transfer the data. With your preferred translation in RAM, it is about 1 second. (Though referring to other translations will take time since it's in MS).
Text of Christ in red is nice.
Italics look shocking! Instead of a gently angled line, it looks like a faulty printout on a dot-matrix printer! Yuck! (And you can't select "no italics" either. <sigh>
For those of you having problems with version 3.0. I received this from Laridian today:
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO UPGRADE TO MYBIBLE 3.0?
---------------------------------------------
In order to benefit from all of the features of your new MyBible, it is important that you replace all of your "old" Bibles with the new, updated versions that you'll find in your personal download account. Follow these few, brief steps.
STEP 1: Purchase
1. Purchase MyBible 3
2. Purchase any additional Bibles that you'd like to add at this time.
3. Do NOT purchase duplicate copies of the Bibles that you already own (if you have already purchased a duplicate copy(s), please see solution to Item #4 under the "Other Common Problems/Solutions" below).
STEP 2: Download
1. Login to your download account.
2. Download the installation file for MyBible.
3. Download the installation file for any new Bibles that you've selected.
4. Download the updated versions of the Bibles that you previously purchased.
STEP 3: Install
1. Install the new MyBible 3 program. Do NOT install any additional Bibles yet.
2. Start MyBible.
3. Select "Delete Bible modules..." from the Edit menu.
4. Delete all modules that are shown in the list.
5. Now install the updated MyBible Bibles and any additional MyBible Bibles that you have selected and downloaded in Step 2.
IF YOU'VE ALREADY INSTALLED WITHOUT DELETING
--------------------------------------------
It's important that you delete all of your previous MyBible versions in order to ensure that MyBible will work as expected. If you have previously installed the NIV, for instance, and did not delete it prior to installing the updated NIV, then you may see unusual display behavior and certain MyBible features may not work as expected.
To resolve this after installation:
1. Start MyBible.
2. Select Delete Bible Module from the Edit menu.
3. Delete all modules related to your previous translation.
4. Reinstall only the updated version of that translation.
INSTALLING TO A STORAGE CARD
----------------------------
You can install your MyBible Bibles to an external storage card. If you need assistance, we provide some advice at the support pages on our web site: http://www.laridian.com/palm/techsupport.asp
OTHER COMMON PROBLEMS / SOLUTIONS
---------------------------------
1. Problem: I don't see the words of Christ in red. Solution: The information about the "red" words is included in the Bible. You must delete your old Bible and install the updated version in order to see the "red" words.
2. Problem: After I highlight the text, the highlight disappears. Solution: This happens when you have not deleted your old Bibles and installed the updated version. Delete all old Bibles, then download and install the updated editions per the instructions above.
3. Problem: The text wraps in the middle of a word. Solution: This happens when you have not deleted your old Bibles and installed the updated version. Delete all old Bibles, then download and install the updated editions per the instructions above.
4. Problem: I didn't understand that the update would be included in my download account. I bought a second copy of a Bible I previously purchased. Solution: Contact us at sales@laridian.com. Include your customer ID and let us know what happened. We'll issue a refund as appropriate.
Due to the high level of interest in our new product announcements, our Web site has been much slower than normal. We're working to make improvements, and thank you for your patience.

On my T-615 I have 3 versions loaded on the card - only takes 3-4 seconds to switch versions.
My translation list comes up within a second.
Is the number of translations? I have the files stored in /palm/programs dir. I think I will move them though.

Another quote from their FAQs:
"You can speed up both the Launcher and MyBible by storing the Bibles in the Palm\Programs\MyBible folder. You'll need to use a program such as McFile or FILEZ to do this."
--- or ZLauncher's file manager! :)

I'm very happy with the 3.0 upgrade. The italics isn't perfect, but the overall package is well done. I prefer to run the databases from RAM for instantaneous screens. Although MyBible runs faster off the card than others do from RAM, I like instant response. :)

Hard resets, soft resets, in RAM, on the MS, Bibles, no Bibles, etc. I still only get the white screen lockup and feel like satan is at work keeping me from reading the Bible on my CLIE. Nope, installs fine PC side, Hotsyncs across fine. Even downloaded a fresh .exe last night, dumped the Laridian folder and reinstalled PC side to no avail. Funny that Palmsolo has a NX and me a NZ, that precludes it being device specific.... Both of us did hard resets to no avail, which would pretty much rule out a conflicting app. Conspiracy by Bill Gates? Worse yet, conspiracy by Olive Tree?!!

Yes I have done this procedure and it appears to install fine. I even beamed the MyBible application and a translation from my CLIE NX70 to a Palm Zire 71 that I am evaluating and MyBible worked fine on the Zire. Isn't that strange?

I just got off the phone with support with Laridian. I'm running MyBible on an NX70V. A temporary fix for the "white screen of death" is to install Version 2 of MyBible and then install Version 3 overtop of it. I did this and it cleared up the white screen. I'm now up and running with KJV and ASV. I must add that this is one GREAT reader.
I know it's been covered by others, but the features are wonderful (highlighting, notes, etc.).
God bless,
