How disappointing...I really wanted a device that costs as much as a cheap laptop, and does less...
Maybe the real Foleo will have some innovative features, like a wwan modem, better battery life, and a faster system...

Holy cow, just when you thought they couldn't one up their old flip-flops with new OS's and whatnot...

Wow, it didn't even det as far aes the Lifedrive....
Wow! Now Palm really looks incompetent. We need a more detailed explanation from Palm on what made them change their minds. We all know they were somewhat close to launch. Does that mean there is a small where house full of orphaned Foleos somewhere?
This announcement comes on the eve of Apple announcing the next generation ipods that are rumored to use OSX as there OS. It's probably just an unhappy coincidence.....still, it makes me wonder.

Foleo = another nail in the coffin
Bad business decisions that make it out of the door costs too much time, effort and money to recover from. You can only make so many mistakes before you fold.

That is good news!...Palm probably is going to focus in something like a TX2 or a big screen phone with wifi (a better iphone)...
I wonder how much of the decision was affected by Engadget's "open letter" and the success of iPhone?

I wonder how much of the decision was affected by Engadget's "open letter" and the success of iPhone?I suspect the decision had been coming on for a while, and the Engadget letter and the iPhone were simply the proverbial straws breaking the camel's back. The Foleo was a questionable effort to begin with, and analysts for the financial community had been lukewarm to outright critical of the product. They couldn't see what it brought to the table, or what it would do for Palm
I think Palm's board asked similar questions as time went on, and I doubt the retail channel was exactly salivating to get their hands on it. Retailers want products they can sell, and who, exactly, was the market for the Foleo?
"Treo users" isn't a sufficient answer. There are a lot of them, but how many needed the Foleo? Not enough, I think, and I believe Palm came to thje same conclusion.

Hi,
Palm and Britney Spears have a lot in common.
Every time they do something it is a PR nightmare and puts them one step closer to obscurity.
I was not a fan of the Foleo but there were those who looked forward to it and now they have had the rug pulled out from under their feet.
Much like those who were looking for a nice standalone pda.

I'm wondering how much of it was due to their little demo sessions. They put the device out there so people could try it and I bet the majority of the reaction to it was negative.

That's one bold and expensive move, and I think the 3rd party software developers aren't too exited either... But it might still be cheaper than coming out with a product that doesn't sell and just hurts your brand name more.
I thought it might be a great device for students, but the price was just way too high. At half the cost it might be a runner.
I'm hoping for a Tx II as well now, with the zen of Palm Linux! (and a built in mic
:D )
Jebus!
I was delaying my new laptop waiting for the Foleo... I can't believe this.
Sorry to me, but except for the IIIxe, Zire31/72 and the TX, Palm has died for me.
I have luck to live in Argentina, so when they decide to retire the TX of the market, I will buy a replacement and store it, since it has become one of the best products I've buyed.
Next, buy a cheap HP 530...
Sad, sooooo sad :(

Of course he should resign. The company has gone from blunder to blunder under his leadership. But the horses have bolted. Who on earth, would be capable of turning this fiasco around now, apart from Steve perhaps?

The better question is who might swoop down and buy Palm. They could do with a bigger, better heeled partner to provide both capital and credibility.
Motorola was rumored to be interested at one point. IBM also got mentioned. Both would be interesting.

After really desapointed, I bought my laptop. Running Ubuntu 7.04, it works like a charm, but it's too heavy.
Sad to see that Foleo will not be out there for a while.
What it going on there, CEO and CTO of Palm???

The reason people bought the "palm pilot" was because it was portable, if we could fit a PC in something as small as the palm pilot people would be after that now whats the point in trying to fit palm pilot in a PC??? I think it was a good move but it came much to late. I don't know Palm's not looking to good these days and with WM and the release of the Iphone/Ipod touch I don't think the company's gonna be around much longer but thats just my opinion.
