It's been so long since I have heard anything about the beta. Are their still huge problems? Their website hasn't been updated in a while with news of a release date or even the status of the beta testing. The latest news on their is a date(September 27, 2002) from before I purchased my NX!!!

I have the latest beta Jackflash 3.0 beta 6 for almost a month and it works flawlessly on my NX. I have moved several programs in and out of flash, mostly replacement apps and even zlauncher is in there and I have never had any problems or freezes or hard resets.
I even put skin files in there, although status bars and VG skins aren't recognized. I haven't tried putting patches yet, but I hear they don't move to flash too nicely, although that it not a jackflash problem from what I understand.

Hmm, I never heard of JackFlash having huge problems. JackSprat probably will never materialize, if that's what you call a huge problem.
No problems here with the b6 for my NX.

Hello,
I heard much about this "JackFlash" but have no idea what is it, what is its purpose. I did a search in google, did not find any satisying site about it. Also did a search here in NX, no direct subject title that talks specific about "JackFlash". I suspect it may have be a subtopic somewhere that talked in more detail about it.
Does any know of a tutorial web site for JackFlash?
Thanks,
John

Their website is www.Brayder.com
I come up with 125 different threads when I did a search for "JackFlash" in just the NX forum (minus quotes of course.:)
In general it's purpose is to enable you to use the extra flash memory (where the OS is stored) to put application you want there and free up valuable RAM:) There is over 4000kb on english NX devices.

Tixx,
Thanks for that info.
Maybe I don't know my way around ClieSource yet. What I did when I searched for "JackFlash" (w/o qoute signs) was I clicked on "Search", which is found at the end of the top tool bar under "CLIESOURCE", where it starts with "home, forums....members, fag, search" and then typed in "JackFlash". Is this the correct procedure for search?
Thank you always,
John

That is correct. And below where you enter the word for which you are searching you can narrow it to certain forums like "NX":)

I use 3.0b4 and it works fine..should I try to get version 6?? Is it any better or should I stick with what works?
What is considered good in respects to the amount of free internal memory?? I have about 7456k free!! Anyone got more than that?

Using JackFlash 3.0b6 since b3 was causing a lock up for me.
... and I have 8.1 mb free. :P

Is it really that important to use Jackflash? After all its nice to have the extra ram, but do CF card users need anymore room now that they have their new eruware drivers? Is there an intrinsic value to Jackflash that I am missing or is it that for some people more ram is never enough!;)

There is no loading time when in flash as compared to when on the card. I like to have my commonly used programs in flash for quick access.

Just tried 3.0b6 on my TG-50. It works flawlessly. It gave me 3+ megs of flash. I am now back up to 10.6 megs free by moving Datebk5 and PowerOne Finance to flash and using PowerRun on most of the other stuff.
I heard some TG-50's didn't have useable flash. I took a gamble and won.

Tixx and Yellowrose,
Thanks for your information. Boy, the 11MB limit was what holding me back from getting one. Now that I understand a little bit more about JackFlash, I could hardly hold myself from getting one, espicially if the 10% discount at overstock is still available.
Decisions, decisions, decisions....ewhhhhhh.....
BTW, is there a tutorial site for Jackflash?
Thanks,
John

There is documentation when you buy it. It is as simple as opening JackFlash, choosing the apps you want moved to JackFlash and then pushing the update button. Not much to it really. You could always move them back to RAM if you want as well.
JackFlash
Version 3.0b6
Brayder Technologies Inc.
April 22, 2003
Installation:
Use the Install Tool to install JackFlash.prc and optionally one of
JackSafe.prc or FlashEnable.prc on your PalmOS device. After your
next HotSync, these programs will be available for use.
JackFlash.prc is the main JackFlash application and is necessary for all
Flash operations.
JackSafe is an optional utility that adds support in the operating system
to restore the contents of Flash after a battery failure or a Hard reset.
Without this utility the contents of Flash will be hidden after a battery
failure, until you are able to run JackFlash again. JackSafe works with
all devices supported by JackFlash except for Sony OS5 devices and Acer
devices.
FlashEnable can be used instead of JackSafe on Sony OS5 devices and Acer
devices. FlashEnable can be copied to a expansion card, where it can be
used after a hard reset. Running FlashEnable after a hard reset or battery
failure will restore items stored in Flash.
We suggest that you use JackSafe to add the Flash restore support to your Palm.
See JackSafe.txt for more details.
Existing JackFlash Users:
The new version can be installed directly over your existing copy. There is no
need to disable or delete the existing installation. If you have already
installed JackSafe, then you do not need to install it again.
OS3 and OS4 Hack Users:
Please note that HackMaster version 0.9 is NOT compatible with JackFlash.
Please use version 0.91 which is available from the support area of our
website at http://www.brayder.com/support/
JackFlash is also compatible with XMaster and EVPlugBase. They are available from
Handango, PalmGear, and other sites that carry Palm software.
FlashPro Detected:
If you encounter a "FlashPro detected" message when you try to use JackFlash,
then you will need to use the RemoveFP utility before you will be able to
use JackFlash. See the readme.txt in the RemoveFP directory for more details.
Flash Compatiblity:
Applications which need to be "Enabled" may not work correctly with JackFlash.
Please avoid placing these programs into Flash. Exceptions to this rule include
Launchers such as Launch 'em and Handscape. These applications are safe to
place in Flash. For more details on Flash compatibility, see the
"Flash Compatibility" section of the User Guide.
Support:
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at
support@brayder.com. We want to ensure that JackFlash exceeds your expectations
and that you are fully satisfied with your purchase.

Restoring a device which is not booting correctly:
In rare cases, a program may be installed into Flash which is not
compatible with Flash memory. This may keep your Palm from
resetting correctly. If you encounter a situation where your Palm
does not reset correctly, you can hide the contents of Flash by
one of the following methods:
1. Scroll-up Reset
Hold down the scroll-up button while doing a reset. Do not release
the scroll-up button until the PalmOS logo appears. Once the device
boots, run JackFlash to remove any offending item from flash.
2. If the Scroll-up Reset does not work, then on OS4 and OS3 devices
with JackSafe installed, you can try a Memo Pad Reset. To do a Memo
pad reset, hold down the Memo Pad button (farthest right button)
immediately AFTER doing a reset. Keep holding this button down until
an alarm sounds. Once the alarm sounds, you can release the Memo Pad
button. This should allow the Palm to reset correctly. However the
contents of Flash will now be invisible until you run JackFlash or
you do a Hard Reset on your Palm.
3. On an OS5 device with JackSafe installed, you will need to use do
the following:
- Reset the device. Listen for a system click during bootup.
Immediately reset the device after hearing the click. If you
heard a second click, then the reset did not occur soon enough.
- If you do not hear a system click, and your device finishes booting,
turn on the System System and reset again.
- Do this process three times. After the third time, there will
be a system click immediately followed by an alarm. After this
the items in Flash will be hidden from the system.
4. If none of these methods work, try doing a hard reset and then go
through these methods again.

I have a Palm M515 with jackFlash installed. It died, and I bought a new M515 on eBay and restored everything from my PC backup using BackupBuddy. However, now when I try to run JackFlash, it tells me "FlashPro is installed on your device. Please remove it with RemoveFP before running JackFlash."
I do not have the RemoveFP program, as I misplaced my original JackFlash installation files. Can anyone help me with a copy of RemoveFP ?

I found my JackFlash installation files on an old backup CD of my PC. I was able to remove FlashPro and jackFlash now works fine, Problem solved.
