a fun app would it be to show some animation movies for the kids during car travel. has someone practice in doing this? how many minutes of video are you getting on to your 128mb stick? wich app do you prefer (kinoma?)? how about the battery life while using it for decoding movies?

maybe the audio kit can help this.

With the audio adapter you will get stereo sound - I believe with the right encoding settings in Kinoma you can get about an hours worth of video on a 128mb stick...

You can get stereo out out of the SJ30? So the sound limitation is only it's speaker?

I tried Kinoma and a few sample movies, but none of them would play ANY sound...message was something like my Clie was not capable of playing the sound in the file...even did this with the sample movie.

In answer to your question... yep, basically. Also allows you to play mp3 files from the mem stick...

Yep, the SA10... I think Sony being Sony have the monopoly on this one, I haven't seen or heard of any others around. Just gritted my teeth and paid me money  Still, I am pleased with it, stereo movies and mp3 files to show-off with...:D

Hey Everyone,
I tried using the Kinoma player on my SJ30 to play movies, but everytime I used it I heard a clicking sound coming from my PDA, is this normal? I thought it was the speaker, so I tried turning off the system sound but it still occured. I do use the SA10 with my SJ30 to play mp3's and stuff, could this have any effect? It just didn't sound normal to me, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

Nope, mine has the clicking too. I also thought it was broken at first since I used to be able to choke out some decent results on my old Visor Platinum.

elguapo80, you need to make sure your movies are encoded using ClieAudio, otherwise it'll just try and use the speaker and you'll get the clicking sound you say as it can't cope...

Hi!

I'm new to this pda stuff but I just recently aquired a new SJ30 (i know its old and outdated now) but I was able to get it new for $60 canadian. I donno if thats a good deal or not but im pretty happy with it.

Anyway I have been playing around with getting movie clips on the pda and I'am having the exact same problem with that clicking sound. Even though the speaker is very faint I can still make out some of the poor audio in the voices, but there is a rythmic clicking sound in the background.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? I also did a search for clieAudio to only find out its only supported by palmos5 which leaves us SJ30 users out of luck. Is there any fixes or other things I can try to get rid of this clicking sound?

Also one quick question, I purchased that sony audio adapter, would I be able to hear the video's sound in "the way it was encoded" type of sound quality or will it remain pretty poor like the built in speaker- and its far fetched but would anyone know if it by any chance eliminates that clicking sound?

Thanks in advance

Ed

PS: using kinoma player 2 and producer 2.0 (i think) Videos show fine but the audio is the problem

The SJ30 does not have the poly phonic speaker that most OS5 models and few OS4 models have (T665). I've never been able to get rid of the clicking sound on my SJ20. And, in the end, the sound quality was so low that it was hard to listen to and to make out.

In the end, my solution was to convert only the video. And then to rip out the audio from the original source file and either put it onto an audio CD, MP3 player, or MiniDisc. (I used the latter). Then, when I wanted to watch, I would take out both my Clie and MiniDisc player. Open the video, and then stop it immediatly and bring the slider back to the start. I would then press play on both the MiniDisc player and the Clie at the same time. The result was a video on my Clie with high audio quality being provided by my MiniDisc player. The only down side is that pausing the video will probably make you go out of sync with the audio when you restart.

It worked for me, and it sure beat the audio quality coming out of the builtin "speaker" and it also beat forking up more money for the audio adapter.

Although interesting, thats not really a convenient option for me. Any idea if buying that audio adapter will get rid of the clicking sound though?

I believe that the clicking is a result of the SJ30's speaker not really being designed for this type of sound output. The audio adapter is a proper sound output method, so, it should be better. However, as mentioned above in earlier posts, you will have to make sure that you convert the videos for use with the audio adapter. (Clie Audio?) Or else, it will just come out of the small buzzer type speaker built into the SJ30.

I can't speak from experience (as the Audio adapter was never an economical choice for me), but I believe that this is what the audio adapter was created for.

The SJ30's speaker was not intended to play these types of sounds. However, the Audio Adapater was.

Bottom line, the clicking is probably a result of such high intensity sounds being played from the small speaker that was not designed with this in mind.

Anyone here with an audio adapter that can confirm this? I strongly believe that the clicking will be gone with the ClieAudio encoding (or equivilant, that requires audio adapter), but I dont' know from experience.

I think its a software problem because its a rythmic clicking, i know its not "distortion" per say , because it clicks no matter what you have the volume set too..
I'm hopeing you're right but I need someone to confirm that kinoma player/producer 2 clie SJ30 and the PEGA-SA10 audio atapter can play back movies/videos on the clie with high quality sound.

THanks for the help so far though.

Lol, sorry I couldn't have been of more help to you.

But nonetheless, just so that you know that the clicking isn't just you:

And, apparently, the PEGA-SA10 works with Kinoma:

It sounds like the user NJL!2016 (http://www.1src.com/forums/member.php?u=5129) has a PEGA-SA10? (Just assuming this from his post) Perhaps you could PM him for more details?

Good luck with it!
