View Full Version : Syncing with PowerRun

I don't seem to be able to sync apps that are controlled by PowerRun, such as WorldMate, FileMaker Mobile, and Splash ID.

If there something you have to do in Power Run or is this just not supported?

here's an excerpt from the powerrun homepage

When an application is moved to the Memory Card, there will be some change in functionality (Exactly like the m50X series' built in function) as detailed below. If you do not like these changes, do not move the application to the Memory Card.

Hot Sync will not backup that application and its data
Global find cannot find data in that application, except when the application is running
Application alarms will not come up
Application conduits will not work

exactly as above post - however, I have "moved app only" with SplashID (and PowerRun of course) and it will still sync - but you have to set the conduit to "handheld overwrites desktop" and apply your changes in the Palm only. This is fine for me as the conduit only really forms as a back up for my Splash data.

But basically all the other apps that I want to sync, hacks which shouldn't be moved with PowerRun and applications which have alarms (ie MegaClock) are residing on the Palmcard.

Hope this helps,
T800

I have Powerrun and Spalsh ID and it syncs both ways. I did it today. No special settings that I know of. Splash ID is on my MS (as well as a lot of other stuff, 11meg, bah.)

Whenever I move Worldmate and the wm* files to MS via PowerRun or Palm Launcher, I keep getting a fatal exception. I see people are able to run it from MS - what did you do?

Cheers

Actually some apps do sync via PowerRun. Worldmate is one that works fine for me via PowerRun. Not all do however, which is probably why their disclaimer. One app that does not sync via PowerRun is Stock Manager, although it might if I elected to move the app only and left the DBs in RAM (haven't tried that yet). SplashPhoto does sync via PowerRun. Bottom line, try it, it might work. My device is a NR OS4. OS5 results may be different. Another option for moving apps to MS that need to sync is using a Launcher X shortcut. This works for me with StockManager, and SplashID, but with Worldmate, I would only get currency updates, no weather.

I only use WiFi with Worldmate.

PowerRun creates shortcuts with the same creator ID as the application being moved to the MS. When you HotSync, the HS Manager first looks for the creator ID's for the conduits, so it can sync. If the creator ID's don,t match, no sync. Most stuff that I do need to sync work. One caveat, anything moved to the MS is not backed up.

I have moved Worldmate to MS via Powerrun and the Palm Launcher (moving the application only and leaving the dbs in RAM and then taking all to MS) - in all cases I get a fatal exception when I try to run Worldmate. That only works if all wm* files are in RAM

What device are you using? Ane what versions of PowerRun and Worldmate? Worldmate works fine on my NR from MS via PowerRun. Worldmate also works fine from the Launcher directory, except it won't update weather or currencies on hotsync.

PS: I have also moved both SplashID and Stock Manager to MS via PowerRun, but with these two, I moved the app only and they both hotsync correctly.

hmm.. I have WorldMate Version 9.1 on MS via PowerRun, and everything works fine. The currency and weather got updated without any problem during hotsync. And I just use the normal PowerRun procedures, nothing else.

I wonder what you guys did wrong.

I am using Clie NX70V
Powerrun v1.2
Worldmate v9.1

rosdimahdi - did you just move the worldmate appl and leave the other wm* files?

I have tried it but keep getting fatal errors unless all files in RAM along with the Worldmate application

Thanks

Anyone else getting this?

Thanks

MarieC - where did you get PowerRun 1.3b2 update from?

Did you buy Worldmate Pro (i.e. v9.2)?

How do registered users know that there is a new upgrade?

Thanks

Worldmate v9.2 isn't the same as Worldmate Pro and it is a free upgrade. Usually they email you when there is an update, or you can check Palmgear, Handango or the Mobimate web site periodically.

For PowerRun 1.3b2, do a search on this site, someone posted a link. I am still using PowerRun v1.2 with Worldmate on my NR and it works fine.

One thing that may possibly be causing your crash, make sure you don't have a current update file in RAM when you use PR to move WM to MS. It's possible it's the update file that is causing the crash. To clear the update file before moving WM, just run WM and select the currency screen. If you get an updating currencies dialog box, the update file will be gone when you exit WM, then try moving it to MS using PR again.

Did you use Powerrun to just move the Worldmate appl and leave the wm* files in RAM? If not did you move the wm* fiels to MS as well and if so what folder?

I let PowerRun move all the WM files to the directory PowerRun creates by default on the MS. I did not select the app only option for WM.

You are using PowerRun to move the files aren't you? Not a file manager, but PowerRun itself. Just highlight Worldmate in the app list in PR, then tap move and bam, it's all set.

It's possible it just doesn't work the same way under OS5, but I thought it did.

I did as per your note but get the Fatal error as per my previous note. I have loaded Worldmate 9.2 and I will now try putting the version 1.3b2 Powerrun to see if that makes a difference.

Cheers
