I have 2 NX80V's and both (I copied files from one to the other) both have a black static on the screen when I bring up the picture camera and neither has any picture at all displayed. This is in both still and movie configuration.

Did I somehow mess up one of the files for the camera to function properly? I gave both a hard reset, but neither work correctly. Is there a remedy for this? Do I need to reinstall some program?

Help!

Sound like your camera is broken, which is common on the NX80 serries.

Same thing as on both my NX73 and TH55, both camera modules are dead. But since these cameras don't take good pictures, I don't think it's worth fixing.

Just got a Cybershot H9, let a real camera take the photos and Clies do what it's ment to (Organizing, e-mail, light web browsing, music...)

Thanks everyone - I was afraid of that. My original two 80V's had the same problem, but instead of sending it back to SONY and paying $147, I figured I would buy one on ebay for less, insuring that the camera worked.

I hate to think I am defaulted back to my UX50...that screen size and daylight readablilty is driving me crazy.

Sad, but true. :( My NX80 has the same problem. I would love to have it fixed, but spending $100+ for repairs is too much. It's only a 1.3 MP, but I found it to take adequate pics for the type of device it is (my Treo 700p's camera is useless).

I had the same problem with my NX80. Fortunately I also paid $50 for the three-year extended warranty from Sony when I bought it. I had the camera and power switch fixed under warranty. The parts list, which they sent back with the NX80, totalled almost AUD$800!!!! My only cost was AUD$22 for the courier. Now I have an almost brand new NX80 again. Which I hardly use now becasue of my Treo.

I posted this recently in another thread, but have you seen this guy's info?

Chris Short (http://www.theinquirer.net/en/inquirer/news/2005/12/23/one-man-company-fixes-pdas)

e-Bay store here (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZitsnothere)

My NX80's camera is also on the fritz. I actually just bought another one on eBay last week to carry me through fixing mine. I still use it tons for travel and work. I'll figure out which one to sell when I get my old one working.

I'm not sure if I'll fix it myself, or if I'll try Chris.

Also, DanT has a thread of his Clie Repair parts and resources here:

Another Sony CLIE NX Parts & Repair shop (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128880&highlight=repair+parts)

Good Luck!

WOW ! We're all having problems I guess. Looks like the half-life for the '80V is about 4 years or so. I now have 3 of them and none have a working camera. Bought one online for about 80-90 dollars and it arrived without a working camera, too (after I specifically asked about it prior to purchase). Paypal wouldn't back me up on it, either.

Maybe I should just go back to the UX50 I have and bite the biscuit on the screen size and the fact you cant read it between the hours of sunrise to sunset, if you are outside.

Thanks for all the good info and venting!
