Thumboard DA 1.13 is out, and its alot faster and more responsive than previous versions. there are also some other upgrades too.

If you dont know what thumboard is....

ThumboardDA is a Desktop acessory full screen keyboard that pops up above whatever your entering text into. So basicaly its like having a larger kwry (what ever its called) keyboard that you can use your thumbs for instead of using your stylus to type in stuff. I find that after a while its much faster than your stylus.

the File is here:

enjoy.

How does it compare to mykbd?

lol Its entirely different from mykbd, as far as I know.
If im correct Mykbd changes the keyboard layout on your DIA and also adds macro features and such.

ThumboardDA is a desktop accessory (DA) that uses the entire 480x320 screen size and to my knowledge does not influence mykbd in any way.

If people do not know what a DA is then you should start off by downloading DAlauncher and then install the thumboardDA.prc
In DAlauncher you should be able to map a hardkey to launch thumboardDA.

I use myskin and I have no need for the keyboard aranging features of mykbd. But I do belive that mykbd has hard key mapping too, and you should be able to map thumboard to a hardkey in mykbd.

If you dont want to do any of this at the moment but still want to know what a da is, then just search the forums

I have and love myKbdAtomic :)

I also keep a copy of ThumbBoardDA for one reason.
I can set the Cursor to the start of text I want to select (highlight) then press the 5Way CenterButton then use the 5Way to move Down/Across etc selecting the text as I go.

This means I can quite easily select text of over one page in length.
If you have ever tried doing this by moving the stylus up/down on a TX you know what a nightmare it is.

I have tried to find a DA that will allow me to select text between 2 points but no luck so far. Any ideas?

If anyone has used txtMemo they will know this feature.
Position Cursor,
Menu/StartSelect
Position Cursor
Menu/EndSelect
(or something like that)

Note: txtMemo does not work on a TX .

This feature would be a great addition to myKbd. Alex? :D

I have no conflict problems using both myKbd and ThumbBoardDA on my TX :)

All the best, woz of oz

Uups, my mistake, I actually meant mini-kbd. I like mini-kbd very much, the only problem I have is that it messes up the datebk6 screen when I use mini-kbd to type the text of a new todo or appointment. The only way to avoid this is to open the DIA prior to invoking mini-kbd, which can be a real pain, since I forget to do this all the time...:-(

I like the soft, but there is another way to launch it instead of using DALauncher??? Somethink like can program a key to lauch the keyboard, for example, the WEB button on the TX ??

Now I use to launch VoiceRec, but rarely use it.

Thanks! :)

Read the included documentation, he mentions software to do exactly that

I can't figure thumboards-- whenever I touch the screen, I leave really ugly smudges from my fingertips. i do use Boxwave screen protector;so, the smudges can be wiped off eventually..
At any rate, I only touch the screen with my stylus, not fingers

Now I use to launch VoiceRec, but rarely use it.The author mentioned TealLaunch, which can launch DAs as well as apps.

I use Mike McCollister's McPhling (http://mikemccollister.com/palm/#McPhling), a popup Favorites launcher that can launch DAs as will as apps. I map it to the Zodiac's Function button, which is basically unused otherwise. McPhling can pop up over a running app and launch a DA. so it works well for the purpose. McPhling is uncrippled shareware, and open source under the GPL.

Just buy one of the programs from alex pruss, Mykbd, Myskin, or Ontop. Each one has an advance keymaping macro system on it (ontop having the most advance) and they each greatly enhance the look and productivity of your palm.

OH and I use myskin as my macro manager and I have the web key set to thumboardDA if I tap it and blazer if I hold it down

I have a suggested improvement for your thumboard da. Maybe this sounds crazy, but I find that I can actually type pretty fast on this thumboard if I use my index fingers instead of my thumbs. The only problem is that since the keyboard is displayed at the bottom with text on top I have to reach just a bit farther than comfortable while holding the TX by its sides. I suspect that if the keyboard were at the top of the display I wouldn't have that problem. It's actually harder for me to use my thumbs since the display is pretty wide. Oddly enough if the display was on the bottom I could see the text easier when typing with index fingers since my hands get in the way when the text is at the top. Also index fingers are are smaller at the tip than thumbs, so hitting the target is easier. Try it!

Otherwise this works great. I think I appreciate the design of the iPhone a bit more after playing with this.
