I have been using Spalsh ID for the past couple of weeks and find it very useful. I was wondering if there are any competitors to this programs that come in at a more reasonable price. Splash ID is $20.00 which isn't outrageousbut my hunch is there is something just as good for a better price.

thanks

DataShield by UltraSoft would probably be my second choice in quality though I do not know the price off hand:)

I use and like SplashID, but there is a freeware app that may work for you called CryptoPad. It integrates with the default Memo Pad application and allows you to encrypt individual memos. There is no desktop component, but the CryptoPad encrypted memos are backed up when you hotsync, you just can't read them on the desktop.

I've paid for, and use SplashID, and have always been happy with it. I've gotten great support from SplashData. SplashData is one of the few companies that support Macs (OS X & OS 9) as completely as they do Windows, which means something to me.
In addition, the product works as advertised.

I use a freeware app called TopSecret by ClickLite....

The new version has a desktop conduit and alot of new features but appears to be commercial now - I have an older freeware version I would share with you. The only diff is there is not desktop conduit and it shows the password instead of ***** when you type it in.

I used to use YAPS. But SplashID is one of those apps that is truly worth the money, since it works flawlessly and has desktop and Palm components!!

I enjoy ewallet. It has desktop and palm components and I have never had a problem with it.

I use Cloak (also has a desktop component) for my needs. Never used anything else.

Splash ID is worth every penny. eWallet is just as good, but a lot more expensive.

I have used CryptInfo from Normsoft for several years. It has an excellent desktop component and is well supported. It's only $14.99 for a high quality app.

Personally, I use Splash ID, but I think Beiks sells a package called safe in hand that does the same.

I'm playing with SplashID, and the thing I like about it over others I've tried is the ability to create a different fields for each category...makes it very customized for each type of data you're storing (web site access vs. bank account vs. travel club, etc.). To me that's worth the price, and thus will register soon.

Does anyone know of a freeware security app with a desktop? I've been using Strip for over a year, and like it. However, I would like to have a desktop conduit.

yet another vote for SplashID.... I love the desktop feature that gives you little "copy" icons next to each item in the record screen... great for pasting passwords into web logins and the like.

SplashID is great along with the rest of the SplashWallet suite they are my most used apps. Before I used it though I used an app called 3nity which is similar to SplashID but only $10 and there is an otional desktop conduit for $6

I used to use Secret! but that was really expensive, and then they charged almost as much as a full Splash ID registration just to upgrade! That was enough for me to switch, SplashID works MUCH better and is well worth the price.

I am trying out SplashID, and so far, it looks very solid and easy to use. Lots of nice bells and whistles, yet simple and clean.

For the longest time, I have been using MemoSafe from DeepNetTech (http://www.deepnettech.com). It's simply a MemoPad replacement that adds an "Encrypt" checkbox to each memo. It doesn't require any special conduit because it encrypts standard Memos. It comes with a simple-to-use Windows-based viewer if you desire to decrypt your memos on your desktop. I use it with Outlook 2000 with no issues. It'll even interface to DDH Software's Spell Checker and Thesaurus's products, but I haven't used them.

The other great thing about it (and SplashID too) is that it has the option of using a large numeric pinpad for password entry that is "fingertip-friendly" I HATE password programs that REQURE you to use a stylus. This makes quick access simple.

It's not nativly HiRes+ compliant, but I just tried it with CodeDiver, and it seems to work well.

It's only $7.00, and has been rock-solid since day one.

What about security and encryption?

I couldn't find any information about this on their homepage.
What kind of encryption is used?

That is the most important thing by which you have to judge such an application, where you store all your passwords.

Do not judge by nice graphics etc.

Here's what SplashID has for encryption, from their FAQ:How secure is my data in SplashID?
Once you set a password in SplashID, the data is encrypted using 256-bit blowfish encryption on both the handheld and the desktop. The password is also encrypted within the data file. And the data is synchronized between the desktop and handheld in an encrypted state. If someone were to get a hold of your data file, they would be unable to decrypt it without knowing the password.

I also used Topsecret until about two weeks ago when the Splashwallet suite was offered at a discount at palmgear, and I took the plunge and puchased the whole Splashwallet suite. I was also using the freeware version. The version I was using was very minimal and I believe it served it's purpose. One thing I didn't like was when I looked tried to look up a listing all the way at the end of the list you would have to click down all the way to "Z" rather than using a scroll bar. I'm sure that they have updated it since then though. I was using a very old version (Version 1.5).

Using Secret! 3.0 and Secret! Desktop. I prefer Secret!'s free form text memo pages.

Love SplashID. Wish I could click on the password in the desktop and have it appear in the right dialogue box in the browser, like Passphrase Keeper. Otherwise: SplashID is worth every penny to me.
