Every since I switched to a CF card I can no longer use uncache. As soon as I register it and reset the device it erases everything. I end up having to reinstall the software. I have also had it erase just the registration numbers for all the installed programs.

Anyone have a solution for this? Without uncache the Lifedrive is practically useless due to the instability. I have tried a fresh install instead of a backup. Installing programs one at a time, but as soon as I reset the device with uncache active it erases the device again.

Is it a problem with the CF card?

I have LifeFlash (CF from usedpdaparts.com) and Uncache, plus a handfull of the other popular hacks such as UDMH, OffFlush, WhineHack, G1, MaxX, and have none of the symptoms you describe.

As a matter of fact it's just the opposite: my LD has never been as stable as this with the factory microdrive. So my guess is it's either a problem with your CF, or one of those misterious software conflicts that can only be resolved by hard-resetting and re-installing each app from scratch (preferrably with just-downloaded new versions).

My problems seem to all be based on how I initially set the device up. When I swapped in the CF card I did a restore to put all my programs back on, but that broke a few of the programs that had their registration tied to the hardware ID like uncache. My hardware ID changed with the new CF card. I had reinstalled uncache and Dmitry was nice enough to give me a new code, but that didn't fix the problem. When I was doing the reinstall I was doing it from my backup folder and I think I was installing junk from my old hardware ID.

I followed your advice and deleted everything and reinstalled all the programs newly downloaded one by one on a clean device starting this time with uncache. Everything is again working great. I have reset it 20 times as I installed programs and all of them are there and working perfectly.

However, I have lost the ability to use Kinoma Player. It was one of the programs that was registered to the hardware ID and not my hotsync so that will no longer work. Hopefully they will reset it. I'm not buying that one again considering how little I used it.

Again thanks for the advice. I now have the speed of the CF card and the much needed stability of uncache.

I don't think my Hardware ID changed with the Lifeflash. Or at least I don't remember having to request different serials for the Lifeflash.

And I have lots of programs that use hardware based serials, so I think I would have remembered.

Did you do your Lifeflash with a full or empty Microdrive. Maybe that was the difference. Mine was a full and working set which I copied and it booted up the same as the original with all the programs and serials intact.

I didn't build my CF based on my old MD. I bought a CF premade. That I'm sure is the reason for the hardware ID issues. I'm all good now and Kinoma even reset my activation so I have that working as well.

Glad to be of service! I sure had my share of troubles, and these little one-liners sometimes are gold.

Also glad to hear it is working. Mine sure is a beauty. The LD has never been beter! Now, if only the good folks at hackndev.com could finish the linux WiFi driver, my PDA world would be complete... ;)
