Hy, i was always wondering, is it possible?!
I have a T|X, and connect to the internet with my phone via bluetooth,
my only problem is, thet i also wanna have the option to schedule automatic email updates, or weather, and rss feeds, etc. but when the T|X powers off it losses the connection, although in most cases it will connect to the bluetooth by itself, but sometimes the connection does not work like this, or some applications will simply not allow you to update automatically when your palm is totally off,

First i thought that the only way would be to dim it to the end, but then i came across pTunes and i see that the screen goes totally off while playing, and it is still on, it does not lose the bluetooth connection.

Is there any way out there to have like one off the buttons should turn off the screen? (i'm sure dmitry has an idea :))

2playme should be able to turn the device on automatically just prior to when yo u want to run a scheduled update.

I believe it's called REM sleep mode and it should be possible, however I'm 90% sure it would use up more power on the device than just a regular power off.

Thank you guys, i'm not sure HandyAid will give me that option, but i wanna try, i just cannot find it, can anyone direct me to the authors website? (palmgear doesn't list it)
And robitaille88, i dont care about it because its not that i wanna keep iy like this whole day long, also the TX has pretty good battery life,

http://www.palmblvd.com/software/pc/HandyAid-2003-11-4-palm-pc.html for HandyAid and if you want the screen to completely dim add BrightnessFix.tx from palmpowerups.com. The addition of Brightness Fix to HandyAid does save the battery life quite a lot - I use this combo personally. :)

Wow! this app has a feature to stay on, and turn display off! and you can set it to stay on (while display is off) only if you have an active connection!
thats great, thank you guys! :)
Just one thing that is missing is to be able to turn 'display' off with a hard button (instead off turning off).

There are a couple of options for dimming with a hard button:

BrightnessDAs (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=53672)
BrightTools (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=123534)

I know that there are a few more, but I can't think of them right now - perhaps someone else will chime in :)

I've been using BrightTools for quite a while, I like that I can assign the Brightness fluctuation to the Center button and that it has the option to toggle. It's not free however...

Its one thing to dim display, and another to turn off display, these apps only dim.

Yes but if you install BrightnessFix.TX then the lowest setting is virtually screen off (no backlight whatsoever) That's the closest I think you're going to achieve unless using HandyAid.

EDIT: mhhh: discontinued.... http://dimmer.79bmedia.com/ but it is free and from the sound of your post, it does what you need.

Turning BrightnessFix to the lowest will not turn off the display.

Having the lowest brightness setting pretty much turns off the backlight, but the LCD is still running. Turning off the display gives you a blank screen -- for an example, see pTunes; it has an option to do this.

An interesting thing is that you can turn off the LCD and backlight, but keep the digitizer on, so a tap will turn the screen back on. pTunes has the option to turn the digitizer on or off as well.

Personally, I can't see much of a reason to turn off the LCD and backlight but keep the device running, unless you're using pTunes or an IM client. Bluetooth already stays on when the device is off, and WiFi is kind of useless unless you're running a server of some sort or doing a lot of IM.

...Bluetooth already stays on when the device is off,...
What?! what is it able to do while device is off? nothing, i try to send a contact from my phone to my TX while its off and it failed, it only worked when the palm was on

You have to go to the options in bluetooth and make it so that bluetooth can "wake up" the palm. It uses a little more battery life, but I belive thats what _EM means.

For more information on it, Its kinda hidden in the bluetooth prefs form, Its only accessable from the menu, its called "Allow wakeup"

If you did it right, then when you tap the bluetooth icon on the status bar the bluetooth status should say its connectable

I was always wondering what are those people talking about,
Just if you can please tell me, what would use more battery, this or the visible mode?

Actually, now after trying it for real, it did not work, my phone was not able to wake up the TX by sending a contact,
Maybe i need to make the bluetooth visible? (my phone is in the trusted devices list of my TX)
