I've had my Cingular 8525 with (modded) WM 6 and I'm CRAZY about it. Cell phone, mp3 player, pda, all-in-one that does it all very well. Albiet, it's not as snappy as the TX but it does everything very well and I have't had ONE RESET even after installing a ton of software. I get instant access to the internet and my email and the slide out keyboard is much more usual for my fingers than the Treo keyboard that I never liked.
So, thanks for eveything and I just hope that palm can get it's act together and come up with something that the mainstream can use.

That's great to hear. I hope you continue to find good use for your new device. I agree with you and sure hope Palm can get its act together, quickly, though I really doubt they will. I too am looking elsewhere than Palm, ready for the day my current device dies.

I've been looking for the perfect PDA/phone combo and have been looking seriously at the 8525 as I've heard nothing but positive things about it. I'll probably purchase a new phone/pda device during the Christmas holiday season, and, from what I've seen out there, it's not going to be a palm device. It's sad, I've had much fun with my TX, but it's time to move on.

Palm has turned its back on its loyal user base. I believe their strategy is to pump the numbers + sell the company. Building a for the user's benefit is no longer part of their story. The only thing holding me back from one of the pda/phone devices is the recurring cost of the carrier plans they require - e.g. $100/month on Verizon. Over 24 months that's an expensive gadget.

I have four lines on Cingular and the MediaNet service and pay $120 a month. MediaNet is $20 and gives me everything I need. I even streamed the Shuttle reentry through Media Player for an hour and it worked great at 3G speeds. Not even a hiccup.

It is also with a heavy heart that I have to say the I have just recently switched from Palm OS to WM6.

Been a palm user since the Palm Pilot Professional days. Gone through several models, the hey-day of the Clie era, and ended up with a Tapwave Zodiac 2 which has served me very well for a long time. But got tired of carrying a PDA and a phone and was waiting for a decent Treo with real hardware specs (hi res screen, wifi, lots of memory, etc). That didn't happen and it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon.

So, bought a monster of a machine. An HTC Advantage x7501. This thing is very large, as far as pda/phones go. But a gorgeous 5" VGA screen, 8 gig hard drive, keyboard, gps, wifi, bluetooth, etc etc etc.

Do I love Windows Mobile 6? Hell no. It's often slow and it takes a while to get anywhere with it. I'd kill for this machine to be running a Palm OS. But with all things being equal, I'd take this machine with WM6 over any Treo right now.

I'm waiting for Dmitry or Pruss to come up with something to reflash it to Palm OS, possibly linux.

lol, the fact that these guys have such apps that IMPROVE upon Palm and get little or no recognition from Palm is almost enough for me to turn my back on them. I think the sign of it's final moments has to be when Engadget posted a letter regarding Palm's problems. I like my TX, but damn the lack of even interest from companies is starting to become alarming.

The only thing that keeps me from switching to the dark side so far is Datebk 6. Do you guys know of any program under WM5/6 that's as good as or even better than Datebk6?

Hi,

The only thing that keeps me from switching to the dark side so far is Datebk 6. Do you guys know of any program under WM5/6 that's as good as or even better than Datebk6?

Pocket informant?

I am not a power user with the datebook so I cannot offer a comparison but having used both, I think it would work well for you.

lots and lots of tweaks available to customize it for your particular usage pattern or just use it the way it is set up when you install it.

I own both and think they are both very nice and both very powerful.

When I switched, I had wished for Datebk on PPC also but have found PI to do everything that I used Datebk for.

I purchased to PPC version of Agendus and it works great even from the MMC card. Th einterface is a little busy for me as the screen is a good bit smaller than on my TX but it works fine with no instability issues.

Hey palmjob

Are you using both the TX and your PPC and if so have you managed to sync both with your PC and keeping the schedule of both devices up to date?

I did synch both of them several times to make sure that I had all the data but since then I'm just using the TX as an mp3 alarm clock and using the 8525 for everything else. I just got uTube on it - amazing.
