Hey guys,

I'll be getting an SJ33 soon and have been looking on eBay for cheaper solutions for accessories. I noticed the USB Charger and Sync cable all in one, obviosuly not made by Sony. Anyone ever use on eof these? Do they work? Otherwise, I'm thinking about picking up a cradle, but sheesh, I'd rather not spend $50 for that!

Anyway, let me know what you guys think! Thanks!
Tim

I use one of those (with a Hotsync-Button) and it works perfectly with my SJ33.

I really think Sony is overcharging for all their accessories.  As such, I buy anything I can from third parties.  I bought a USB Hotsync/Charger and a AA battery charger fromPC-Mobile.  Here's a link:

I came across them while looking for a connector so I could make my own charger.  I quickly realized, it was cheaper to buy what they'd already configured.  The combination I bought included a DC adapter for the car.  It's basically a standard USB Hotsync/Charger, with a DC to USB adapter.  I've been pleased with the products and prices.  They are based out of Hong Kong, but it delivered quite quickly (1 week, to Seattle).

I bought one from Belkin (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=1979&pcount=&Product_Id=126196) when they were having a 1/2 off sale. It's great... even comes with a car adapter.

Got mine on eBay for around $6. Has a HotSync button built right in... much better than the unit that shipped with my SJ20!

How do you HotSync with one of the USB cables that doesn't have a butten on it. I got a Sony one and one off eBay and they don't have a butten to push. Any ideas?

"Hotsync" is just an application.  The cradles have a button mapped to run the hotsync app.  If you select the "All" category and scroll down to the "H"'s, you'll find it.  When you run it, you will still need to tap on the big icon in the middle of the screen.

There is a hack out there calloed "EasyLaunch" that can simplify this process too.

I also bought one of the USB sync/charger cables from eBay. Works great! Mine does not have the hotsync button, but it is very easy to start the HotSync app. Charges my SJ20 with no problems. I also plug it into my SJ20 if I am going to do intensive things like MS Backup to keep from using the battery.

are all cables sync/charge or do you need a special one to have charge capability? so if i were to buy a regular stock USB cable for my SL10 (either for the side jack or to plug into the adapter on the bottom), how would i know if the cable can also 'charge' (for SL10 get external power- obviously it can't be charged!)?

EDITED: I know for sure that the SL10 can receive external power. I regularly use an AC adapter. And i've also seen sync/charge cables for them that plug into the bottom connector. But i don't want the fixed SL10 adapter on it. I want a regular miniB cable so i can also try out the side jack- but i don't know how i'd know if the miniB USB stock cable is sync/charge or just sync.:)

SL10's are a different animal. I've seen the question asked several times here (can an SL10 get external power through a hotsync cable?) but never seen it answered in the affirmative. You may be out of luck getting external power to your SL10 through a hotsync cable...

Better make sure it can receive external power before buying a cable.
