View Full Version : Tapping URL Links in Versamail not working

Until recently, when I would tap an url link in an email message in Versamail, it would automatically open the url in Blazer. I recently noticed that this functionality no longer works. Tapping the url highlights the url, but does nothing else.
Tapping an email address still works (opens a send-message window addressed to the address tapped) so I know it's not a digitizer issue.
The only recent changes I can think of that might have an effect are that I recently installed NetFront, UniCMD, and Resco Explorer. NetFront is another browser. UniCMD and Resco Explorer have functions that manipulate "associations" (which "might" have an effect on what app is "associated" with an url in VersaMail).
Since there are four pieces of software that might be involved, rather than first going to the manufacturers and getting the "it's the other software's fault" run-around, I though I'd ask here and see if anyone has seen this problem and/or knows anything about what settings Versamail looks at when a user taps an url.
Thanks!

If you have MemUnfragment or UnCache installed, that could be the problem...

If you have MemUnfragment or UnCache installed, that could be the problem...You nailed it in one try! I had been experimenting with MemUnfragment and had it installed. I un-installed it and the problem went away.
Funny that I'd never read about anyone else having this problem. If you use email on your Palm, this seems like a significant down-side to using either MemUnfragment or UnCache...
Did you have the same problem or .... ?
Thanks!

Yes, I had the exact same problem a couple months ago, and someone here on the forum told me it could be a MemUnfrag/UnCache issue, and it was. Glad it fixed it :)
LOL!
I had installed uncache within a week of buying my tx
I didnt even know versamail did that, lol
*I feel as if I was using a bike with square wheels*
Which files do I add to uncache to make it work? (im using v3.51)

hmmm guys i think you dont need to have both on your palm... it is either UnCache or MemUnfrag but not both!
As for the files you need to put into the cache list hmm... i believe you need the main VM app and Blazer so that they can recognize eachother (well, if you want blazer to open Versamail when tapping a "mail-to" link; otherwise just blazer)

I would reiterate this question. I've known all along that this was a problem, but have never figured out which files needed to be added to UC in order to make it work. Of course in the best of all worlds you'd also be able to designate which browser you want to handle the URLs.
The program called Sharklinks alows you to specify the default browser for the entirety of the palm, I have picsel browser, nefront, webpro, and blazer so I had default browser issues untill I used sharklinks option.
I want to use blazer with versamail, and blazer is already my default browser, I just dont know what to add to uncache to make it work I've tried putting Email, Versamail, and Web into uncache but it still doesnt work. Do I need to add a particular MM file?

I would imagine that is the case, although which one I am not sure. At one point I remember that some said that you had to put a D2G file in the UC list for functionality to work there. (it was DXTGAttachmentPlugin) Not sure what the file does and as I didn't see any real difference I took it out.

@cms
I have Sharklinks default browser set to Blazer, but links in VM still launch Web Pro.
@cyberdude
That file you mentioned is probable to let VM know there is an application available to open certain file types.

As for which file is responsible, my guess would be one of these (I don't use UC, so can't test).
MMConduit-asc6
MMConduit-asc6_enUS
MMConfigFPI
MMConfigFPI_enUS
MMNotify
MMNotify Send
MMNotify_enUS
MMPluginMGR
MMPluginMGR_enUS
MMSmartAdd
MMSmartAdd_enUS

@BrentDC
I figured as much. I believe it is supposed to handle doc, xls, and ppt attachments. But I just don't get enough of those when I do check email on my palm to make it worthwhile. My UC list is already way too long.
nonsence, a UC list can never be too long lol

Is there any update to the UnCache/default browser issue? I've read many posts, but none seem to point at a solution. I installed UnCache yesterday and really like its functionality. It would be great to have clickable links back from every application.
I read that by reinstalling/hotsyncing Blazer will rewrite the registration. Is this true? I'm skeptical because, by deinstalling UnCache, the preference is restored.

Just trying it would do no harm, would it?
You just have to copy it over from ROM, then to card, then over to your desktop and vóila ...

A long UC list is a useless UC list... unless you're just trying to stop a few errant apps from preloading into the DB.

None point to a solution because that's the tradeoff of not letting an app load its code into the DB Cache. About the only way you could fix things would be to write an external app that only preloads *some* of blazer's code into the cache.

I tried syncing Blazer a few days back, and it wouldn't re-install.... Hotsync is to fussy
Speaking about this, I've got an interesting situation:
Resco Explorer has all those associations mapped out, and for the most part things behave like you'd expect from there.
HOWEVER, when I sync m4a files via MissingSync, it gives me an error saying the filetype isn't supported, even though it is mapped to pTunes in RE.
So then I installed the Card Directory panel, and lo and behold... m4a wasn't listed! Not only that, the entire list was different from the one RE had, and it appeared to be the list that is actually used when syncing (as opposed to the one used when launching from SD card or downloading/etc.).
Anyone have a good explanation for this?

All I know is that I have never been able to edit & save this list with RE. It letīs you edit it all right, but when you look at your edited list after saving it itīs the same as it was before. Thatīs why I did not really use this feature.

So then I installed the Card Directory panel...
What is this ? Is this an app or a pref panel??

The developer of Uncache does not appear to care, acknowledge or provide support for this defect in his product I have tried repeatedly to get even an acknowledgment but there has been no response. Fortunately it only costs $6. He makes some pretty cool stuff but appears to be more interested in custom roms for the T|X than he is in supporting his OWN product. I'm pretty unhappy.

Dmitrys young, and just starting collage, he looks forward more than he looks back. His Uncache App is not the problem, because its doing exactly what it was ment to do.
What were looking for is for somone to make an app that turns on these associations in versamail, without having blazer reciving the reset notification.

I think some programs do overwrite this settings that you set with RescoExplorer.
(So i've also get this problem.)
If you want to change an existing allocation then it will not work. But if you add a new allocation then it will do.
Example: The default for ".avi" is the build in "Media". If i want to change it it don't work.
But if i add ".mp4" and set it to "TCPMP", this works (if i set Resco Explorer to "Restore allocations" and if i add the Explorer to uncache.)
