View Full Version : Strange BackupMan error while restoring
I've never had problems with restoring my Clie with BackupMan before, but I can't seem to be able to restore it this time.
I accidentely let the battery run out and when I try to restore my last (and only) backup set I get a "Enter Set Password" prompt. I'm not aware of any password and thus can't restore my device. Help would really really be appreciated....

The really bizarre thing is that BackupMan doesn't have encrypted backups, so it's not possible to have a setting that requires passwords. Are you sure it's BackupMan that you're using? If so, did you have any kind of app that did encryption for your entire system and/or MS? Also, I agree with Alan; something like this should be addressed to the developer, but please keep us posted.

I agree with all things above. Just try any passwords that might relate to your clie...say one that you used to have in you security apps or anything else you might have had on there.
I e-mailed the author, but didn't get a reply so I decided to just start over from scratch.
Since I synchronized a week ago I lost a week's worth of data, but then again I'm vacationing so it wasn't that much to start with. :)
IMHO the battery probably ran out while doing the backup thus causing the corrupted backupset. The backupset had a size of 4+ mb, but when I looked at set details it didn't contain any files....
So now I've learned to always make sure the battery has enough juice to at least finish a backup session. Hey it happens...

Yeah, the battery going dead in the middle of a backup is not good, especially for backup apps that only allow one copy of the backup. That's another good thing about BackupMan, that you can have 2 or more backups saved, so even if this happens, you just restore your other backup.
