Is anyone else experiencing a memory leak from running Wassup? I know at least a couple of others were, from another thread on Wassup.

I emailed Gavin more than a week ago and received a couple of replies that basically indicated he couldn't duplicate what I'm seeing on his emulator. Haven't heard any more from him for a week now.

Every time I run Wassup, 12-18kb of available RAM disappears (this is cumulative, so it can become significant). Requires a soft reset to recover the lost RAM.

Another strange issue with Wassup. Every time I use Wassup to launch an app that is on MS, a duplicate icon appears in my unfiled category, when I exit it. Tapping the duplicate icon causes a crash. The duplicate icon disappears the next time I launch any app from my normal launcher.

If any of the others that were having these problem found a solution, I would appreciate hearing it. Starting to look like Gavin is ignoring this one.:(

I have my NX lock up if i set the Tasks and Appointments to use icons and then tap on the respective fields to see the listed items:(

I don't have that problem on my NR. But I use the default Datebook app and ToDo with no icons, which could be why.
I did check to use icons in Wassup, but there aren't any icons to use, so no problem.

Sounds like Gavin has a plateful of stuff to workout.

I hear echo of my memory loss and crash after tapping the magically apprearing duplicate icon.  At one time I lost 600KB and the brain just short circuited and crashed.  Gavin basically told me that I'm barking on the wrong tree.  He has thousands of customers and I was the only one who's barking.  Oh well.  The Clie finally asks me to keep my finger or her stylus out of her Wassup launch pad.  She seems happy since.  No crashes, no leak. :D

DanT,

I've been barking at Gavin's tree too. Looks like Tixx is also having problem with it. Don't know if he's barked yet. All I've gotten out of Gavin is that it doesn't leak on his emulator. I also have kicked this one to the curb, until it gets fixed. Make my Clie much happier.

I got rid of it about 2 days after registering. Gavin couldn't duplicate my issues either.
Oh well, easy come easy go. "Today" causes no problems.

I have always been a fan of Today....its free but Im sure if it works well for you the developer would take contributions, beats paying $5 to bark up the Wassup tree for nothing.

It is 100% in the tasks menu that checking show icons leads to my NX locking up. I checked it some more and will send an e-mail soon. I blew it off when I found it was that setting and just simply did not set it that way, you know if I do this and it hurts then don't do this. I had no time to bother recently. Bark bark:)

After using Today for a while my T665 crashed and I finally figured out that it was the Today program. I changed to Wassup and haven't had any problems since. Maybe its only a problem on the NR/NX series...

I have N760 with OS 4.1. I gave up with ToDay also because of crashes. That is why I bought Wassup.

As far as Wassup memory leak, you may check your free RAM before and after launching app, that resides in MS, from Wassup launch pad. Also after launching the app, go to your unfiled category of your launcher (MegaLauncher, ZLauncher, etc.) and see if you have a duplicate app there. That is what we have experienced.

I used to use Wassup but I dumped it. I don't really remember why. I think it was because their themes were not being rereleased to reflect the newest versions (so I could have a Calvin theme but only some of the Icons we Calvin while the others were default, looked ugly). Any how, now I use Today on my T665c and my SJ20, never had a problem.

You are right about the memory leak as everytime I enter and exit Wassup I lose 7kb until I do a reset and then it starts again:(

Woof, woof, I've barked at Gavin's tree a couple of time yesterday and today, with a link to this thread. His last email to me said he quit looking for the memory leak, since he couldn't duplicate it on his emulator.

I just sent him an e-mail about both my issues.

I think I have discovered the area or Wassup that causes the memory leak. If you don't have any apps in the Wassup launchpad that are on MS, the memory leak goes away. For each app you add to the launchpad that is located on MS, the amount of memory leak increases. I suspect this is also related to the phantom icon that appears in the unfiled category each time you run an app from the Wassup launchpad that is on MS. Seems like Gavin could have uncovered this with the information I previously sent him.

I think you are right, though I do not get an icon in unfiled. I just recently added a card item to the list and oddly enough I just noticed the leak. Let me try without that app in there.

*LOL* you are absolutely correct. I changed the button to an app that is in RAM and Bam, no more memory leak.

The phantom icon may be an OS4 thing. The phantom icon disappears as soon as you run another app. Weird.

It does lock up my TG50 too. And I have lock ups accessing the app. list as well...

Sebring, you're right on the money.  That fixes mine, no more leak.  Thanks.

I had 10 MS apps in Wassup launch pad earlier.  It was no wonder I lost up to 600KB after several days that led to the system crash.  Now I swap those apps with the apps in McPhling favorite list, since McPhling is cool with launching MS apps.

Hmm...so both problems are confirmed.

Now that we've hung flags on where the problems are, maybe Gavin can fix em.
