id really want to be able to use the GigaPocket conduit that comes with the Clie devices... unfortunately, i would need a TV-tuner VAIO pc with GigaPocket installed... just not worth it to cough up that dough...

i was thinking that why dont i have a pc with a third-party tv-tuner card assembled, then borrow the desktop GigaPocket app and install it...

do you think that would work?

No, the GigaPocket is a whole separate drive(the closest thing to it is TIVO). You need to have it preinstalled in a VAIO to get it.

However, if you have a VAIO with the GigaPocket, you can install the Picoplayer software in your other computer and network them...

GigaPocket is a must have if you have a VAIO. There are so many cool things you can do with it(I like to use mine to store the movies/shows from my TIVO that I want to keep. And I use it to watch TV while browsing this site.)
