As a newbie in multiple senses (new PDA owner, new Clie owner, first time posting to anything!) I appreciate your help and patience.

I rely on Entourage X (10.1.1), have just purchased an SJ20 which is charging for the first time as I write, have installed Palm Desktop 4.0 on my iMac running 10.1.5, have not yet installed the Entourage syncing software provided by Micro**** (I have to own their products for professional reasons, but I don't have to like it). The only things I am planning to use my Clie for in the forseeable future is accessing my contacts and calendar -- no games, music, documents, spreadsheets, etc. I would maybe like to import photos from iPhoto, so I can leave behind the stigma of being a mother who doesn't always remember to carry around photos of her two small children, but only if that is a happy and easy by-product of making my Clie communicate with my Mac!

I've spent a few hours reading all the posts and responses on Cliesource that mention Entourage. From that I've gleaned that the order in which one installs software matters, and that there is some debate about whether it is necessary to use Missing Sync (which I am happy to purchase if is will save me time and headache, and which I gather might be necessary to fulfill the iPhoto wish). I wasn't able to piece together, given my particular set of software and hardware components, what I needed to do step-by-step to maximize my chances of having things work.

I am hoping one or more of you might be willing to recommend those steps -- many thanks! :)

you will need The Missing Sync by Markspace (http://www.markspace.com) to even begin doing things properly

here are the steps that worked for me

first, make sure you have the latest versions of all the programs you will be using. upgrading to os 10.2.5 would be ideal if cost is not a real issue, but these should work either way. you are already half way there if things are up to date.

first install palm desktop for mac (latest version is 4.1, but i am not sure if the new version works for 10.1.5). second install missingsync (latest version 3.0.5). then install the entourage conduit from microsloth.

i personally restart the computer after installing each program. it takes more time, but i know that when the computer restarts it sets the switches properly for the new software and many times things don't go well if you install another program without a restart.

if you have done these steps in order, you should be able to plug the cradle into the usb port, push the hotsync button and watch the magic happen (it never hurts to offer a prayer to which ever god you claim when you push the button).

one final note: i have found that the hotsync cradle doesn't really like to be plugged into a usb hub, but loves to be connected straight to the computer.

I used to have to use Missing Sync with my TG50 UNTIL Palm Desktop 4.1 came out. Then, Missing Sync was no longer necessary for USB syncing. I think it would benefit others if people with other Clie devices using Missing Sync with 4.0 would try to sync with 4.1 BEFORE re-installing Missing Sync.

OK guy....I am migrating from XP to OS X V10.2.1 I am finally free from Microsloth. I had install my Clie for desktop on my IBM X30 and have yet to install the desktop to my G4. Any advice on how to migrate safetly ? Any way to synch with imail or (sadly similiar to outlook)...I don't want to use the entourage if I can. I am very new to Mac and I am not fimiliar with G4. This is the 1st day i have it. Any help and advice is appreciated.
