Using MusicMatch Jukebox I converted a few tracks of Cold Play latest album and a few tracks of Andre Bocelli's Verdi into mp3 files. As I attempeted to transfer them into my NX70, I keep getting the message that this format is not compatible with Audio Play. If I override it and install it anyways the files will not play. I get this message..." This track is unavailable for one of the following reasons: The memory stick media is write-protected or does not support copyright control, or the track is corrupted."

I also tried transferring a mp3 file I could before, but now get this message, even though I could before. One couple of changes since the last time I was able to tarnsfer and play mp3 files in my NX70...installed CF driver and had to reinstall the MS Export software, but even though it installs I get this error message .." Fail to install memory stick driver".

ANy clues on this? All/any help is appreciated.

Try installing MS Pro patch frm the Sony US Support site. This helped me with MP3s on my CF card

Found the fix!!!

I changed the recording quality from 64kbps to 96 kbps. I work just fine. It seems that AudioPalyer will not recognize any MP3 files recorded below 96kbps bits.

Thanks...and I hope this helps someone else.

Thats not true. Anything between 32kbps and 320kbps will work as long as its fixed rate and 44.1kHz. The problem is some conversion software like Music Match will automatically make any conversions under 96kbps less than 44.1kHz. For instance your file might end up 64kbps and 24kHz. The 24kHz is the reason the Clie won't read the files and not the 64kbps.

I use Goldwave because it lets me set my rates exactly the way I want them. For Radio shows I record off the internet I usually convert them to 32kbps and 44.1kHz and they play great and I can put a lot of them on a 128MB stick.

Thanks for the clarification. As you can see, I am not as technical as you. Again, thanks for the clarification.

He's right....it's the 44.1 khz sampling rate that is necessary.

dbPowerAmp is what I use to convert and make sure it's right.

I'm not technical either, but I've had MP3 capable Clies since the 710C and learned the hard way about the 44.1kHz thing.

I hoped Sony would remove that limitation with the OS5 devices, but they ended up making the new audio player even more limiting. The older versions on OS 4 devices allowed varable bit rates, but the newest OS 5 version does not.
