View Full Version : Which operating system?
As I mentioned in a previous posting (which no one has responded to :( ).... the computer that I use to hotsync my information failed yesterday evening!
I'm comteplating getting a new computer since the old one ran off of Windows 98!
Which operating system do you guys recommend I purchase? Does the Hotsync function work well with Windows Vista or is Windows XP better?
Please respond... I used Windows 98 for so long because it worked well and I never had any problems with it!
Thanks!

Hi,
check the 1src front page.
Just FYI, I use Windows 2k and XP Home for syncing...no problem. Vista IMHO is not a very good os...but let's save that for another thread!

Once you get PalmDesktop for Vista, remember, you have a Sony, not a Palm.
We are sure that UX and Windows 2k, XP, work well together. For Vista, I don' t know.
check the 1src front page. :D :D :D :D :D ;)
(Tam Hanna : I didn't remember you made FileFind :o )
Thanks for responding to my questions Tam Hana and Antoinepierre! I appreciate it!
I'll avoid getting Windows Vista for the time being! I'll check into trying to get Windows 2000!
Hey... what about Windows XP? Is it fully compatible with Hotsync?

XP would work great. It's what most people are using to sync. Win2K should also be fine, yet I am not familiar with it enough to recommend it. (I am using a Mac, but that's another story :D )
As for Vista, assuming that you have a Clie, a Japanese Clie user have tested and reported that Clies may only sync with Vista over WIFI. USB sync is unusable. So for Clie users it's best to stay away from Vista. By the way, Sony officially reported that Clies are not compatable with Vista, and they are not planing to fix this. Thus, Sony also recomended XP.

This is not true at all. I just got the new 6.2 Palm Desktop Vista beta and it synced perfectly over USB on my Vista Home Premium laptop with my Sony Clie UX50. I was using the unofficial drivers from www.sonyclie.org though, that possibly may have made the difference.

no problem with vista syncing as log as you use the new palm desktop beta application, which look pretty nice.
as for driver, wifi and BT dont need any, and for usb connection you'll need the ux hotsync driver and scsi driver (for data import to work). instead you can use the modified scsi libraries which does not required any driver for both xp and vista.

I have Hotsync working perfectly well with my Vista Enterprise PC at home - the only problem was actually with installing the Hotsync application. If you run the Hotsync installer manually from the original UX CD all should work perfectly. I have no problems with Vista or Office 2007...

I installed beta vista palm desktop, but couldn't hot sync, then the original palm desktop, now can't get my data onto the desktop. It does hotsync just nothing gets on the palm desktop. how do you instal hotsync manually. for either the beta or original version.
thanks,

during the first hotsync with the new palm desktop, it will ask for the hotsync driver (found new hardware wizard) just point to the ux hotsync driver folder.

I ended up using MS works task launcher and it's working with my vista system. Does the beta vista desktop sync memo or cliememos?
