Just went to X-Men 2 yesterday.. Before the show, they're showing all these static ads, interspersed with lame movie trivia...
One of the ads is a combo Pepsi/Sony ad.. Shows a bottle of Pepsi on one half of the screen, and what looks to be a new Clie model on the other half.
T series form factor, NX style HR+ screen, Application hard buttons near the bottom of the device. No clamshell, just a HR+ tablet...
It caught me by surprise, and the ad never came around again, but there it was. The first concrete suggestion of the new model...
Anybody else seen this one?

hi,
are u sure.... or was it an illusion ? (joke)
a more detailed description of the device would be kind from you because the one you gave got me a little confused.
Thanks, ... I need to see X-men 2 soon.

I suppose you COULD look at the fact that I've never posted before and assume that I'm full of !@#$...
But really, as a Clie owner who's looking to upgrade, I've been waiting for new models just like everyone else.
Maybe the ad I saw (Paramount, Toronto.. If anybody else is in the area and goes, keep your eyes out..) showed a real yet-to-be-released model, maybe it didn't. I only posted to a) inform the community of what I hope may be coming and b) see if anybody else can confirm.
As for specifics, I certainly can't comment on anything else. It was a photo taken from one angle, showing only a non-clamshell device with a HR+ screen. Draw your own conclusions as to the capabilities of such a device.
Hopefully by the end of E3, we'll all know what Sony's up to. But I'd at least like to not be pegged as some rumour monger out to dupe the community. Especially not on the basis of my forum activity.

I don't doubt what you saw at all. My post was supposed to be more playful than antagonistic. Was the screen of the unit off or on? If it was on, can you remember what was on it? Or if the virtual graffiti area was up or down? I am afraid it may just be one of the old images of the T665 that was up on Sony's website. These images had Hires+ screens on the T665 showing the ClieRMC program and AudioPlayer. The reason I ask about the VG area is because in each of these pictures the VG area was up. In most pictures Sony has put out showing a true Hires+ device, the apps displayed have either been Photostand (with the clock overlay) or the new OS5 Clie Launcher in full screen mode, with no VG area showing (it is minimized).
Thank you for posting your experience, and sharing with the community. I'll talk to some friends who have seen X2 (I havn't seen it yet) and see if they were paying enough attention to notice such an ad.

The unit in the picture was off. No launcher or apps were visible on the display. The screen was definately of a 320x480 size, as it took up pretty much the entire front of the unit. No grafitti silkscreen was printed on the front. The app buttons at the bottom were oval in shape, much like my N760.
Since the device was being shot from the front towards the bottom, i couldn't see the top where the memory stick/ir/bluetooth (if any) might have been.
It certainly wasn't any Clie model I've seen before. I thought that it might have been the NX and started looking fo evidence of the clamshell, but there was no hinge at the top. I gather that the unit also had no camera, since there was nowhere it could have been located.
All in all, the unit looked about as slim as the T series was. Unlike the N760 I have, there was no power switch at the bottom. The space that wasn't taken up by the screen was just wide enough for the hard keys, and nothing else. Basically, the unit looked to be very thin, and "all screen"...

He said it was a Pepsi/Sony ad, so unless Sony is getting into the PPC business, it would be a PalmOS device. Good thinking though.

This makes NO sense at all. A shared ad for Sony and Pepsi announcing a new never before seen highly anticipated device with no name, specs, etc.?? Sony and Pepsi do have a cross-marketing agreement so that part makes sense. You had all this time to see the unit but there were no names or specs??? Doesnt really sound like an advert for a new product...

Sorry I was skimming and I missed the Sony/Pepsi thing. I agree with Ash on this one...

I do have to point out the poster has been a registered user for 5 months now, not a "NEW" user of cliesource.
On the topic of the product, it is not unheard of for a company to release promo footage of a non-existant or not released product shortly prior to announcement of said product or simply for marketing purposes (see Cisco advertisements using NX70 as a video phone...) But in Sony's case, I think they might be testing the waters to see if we catch on to this idea and show enough support for the new form-factor, either that or they're teasing us... If we can get confirmation of the promo, I didn't see it when I saw X2, but the theater I attend shows only Coke ads.

I saw X2 on Friday but -- if they showed the ad -- I didn't notice it. I agree with Ash... this doesn't sound right to me. As a marketing professional, it's certainly not a tactic I would utilize.

If I'd had a camera, I would have been more than happy to take a picture. But honestly (Ash...), on a static ad displayed for 20 seconds, how am I supposed to get specs? It was a photo, nothing more.. Not a blueprint.

I saw the an ad similar today when we went to see X2 ,, but it had the sj33 in the ad it wasn't a new clie

Until shown otherwise, I am inclined to believe that jadedboi's report of what he saw is sincere. Before we collectively draw our daggers of scepticism, I call for a brief detente, while we wait for verification.
Perhaps we have all been burned too many times by false posts of new clie sightings, but I still think such posts should be considered BOLO's (Be On the LookOut), until we have more evidence.

Give jadedboi a break.
My God, he see an ad flash up on a screen for 20 seconds
and should have blueprints out already.
jadedboi, thanks for the heads up.
Take care

I am not saying he is a liar. He describes it in detail then says he only saw it for a few seconds. If indeed it was an ad for a new product dont you think the model number would be featured? I am sure he saw a Clie but not a new one....

How'd did he know it was a Sony? Maybe what he saw was a Garmin instead :D!

I'm also not saying he's a liar. I'm just skeptical that it was a "sneak peek" of a new model (on no other basis than it doesn't make sense to me as a marketing tactic).

FYI,
Clie Planet is reporting having inside information on the next Clies. One of the units they describe sounds like a T-series form factor with the 320x480 sized screen.
...fingers crossed.

I'm going to see Identity at the Paramount this afternoon. We usually get there early enough to see a round of static ads. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Hmmm, Sony paying for a Garmin ad?
Interesting concept.
So if what he saw is correct will the smarta$$es be quiet for a while? :)

I posted about the SJ-30 being discontinued, and the SJ-33 about to come out, just a few days before everyone here knew about it. You should have seen the postings trashing me and ridiculing me. Merciless. Well guess what I was absolutely right. I don't know if this fellow is right, maybe it is hypocritical of me but I admit I am skeptical, or maybe he saw some pocket PC or something. I have a hard time believing Sony would put an unannounced model in an Ad.
I think it is ridiculous for anyone to put hopes on E3 as being tied to a release date, it never has been before, come on that is a video game industry conference, why would it. I won't be surprised if Sony has no new model til August, I think the new release rumors are driven by wishful thinking. An NX-60 replacement would be great though. Sony sure looks stupid compared to Palm at the moment. This is embarassing. Hope something comes out soon.
