Most gateways allow you to access a control panel using a web browser.
e.g I put http://192.168.0.2 as the URL in i.e and I can change the SSID right there.
Have you tried "accton"?

The Gateway address is an IP address and is usually the same for accessing the router portion and setup screen in the desktop PC's browser.
Red Slug gives an example in how it's placed in the URL Address bar.
Everything should be in the manual that came with the unit.

Larry ... the original question was about the SSID ... I'm sure this is what is on the back of my device ... I didn't mean the Gateway Address, sorry.
The SSID isn't written like a Gateway Address, is it? If it is then that would explain how I keep screwing up my attempts to connect to the internet at home!!
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick!
The SSID is simple text to identify a wireless network. You actually don't even need it, it's basically used when in the vicinity of multiple networks. My SSID is my last name. Basically the two need to match, or use "any" as the SSID.
You have to look inside the unit (using an IP address) via your web browser for the SSID as it's NOT a fixed item. Usually they all come through with the same generic factory name. Example: Linksys would come through with an SSID of "Linksys". You put in whatever name you want, you can even use your dogs name if you'd like :).
Since at my locale with a combo of up to 8 PC's and Clies, it's a combination of Ethernet wire and Wireless network, all settings are set statically (manual). The router portion is set to DHCP. The Clies were much more reliable with static settings than when using auto.
When the other fellow said he didn't have the manual, it was pointless for me to go any further. Maybe someone else with a similar unit can walk him through it. It's far to complex and techinical to explain when someone isn't up to steam. I spent days studying things before attempting anything so I'd have a half backed idea of what is going on. In other words, enough to be dangerous :D!
I hope this clears some things up for you! How's the SARS situation where your at?

Cheers for that ... I'm learning something new every day!
SARS ... mmmm ... I think only 8 new cases today and 5 deaths ... death rate is now 10% of those infected (total 170 deaths) but most fatalities are the elderly and / or thoise with chronic health problems. More of a worry is that they now say the virus managed to mutate itself in only 2 WEEKS! That's awesome and VERY scary ...
Cheers!!!
