I have both Merriam WebsterŪ VestPocket Dictionary and DictionaryToGo. In my opinion DictionaryToGo is the better product because the definitions are more decriptive has more words in the dictionary.

I have Noah Pro with 122,00 words but I kinda like Dictionary to Go with 150,000 word database and for 15 bucks I believe.

Got that one too, :D

With Easylaunch, I can finger swipe from graffiti screen to Find button to launch MSDict or I use MiD Hack to launch MiD by finger swiping the opposite direction.  If I'm in a text I can highlight the word and finger swipe from the Find button to the graffiti area to let MiD automatically find the word definition or just tap on the word and Find button for MSDict to automatically find the word definition.  I found they are using different word definitions.  Referring to both of them make the meaning more complete.  Sometime I can't find a word definition in one dictionary, but able to find it on the other.

Ditto. Have been using it for a while with Websters Unabridged Dictionary and highly recommend it.

If you want to be more accurate in finding the word definition, I found MSDict is better. For example, for the word 'scrooge', MSDict gives the pronounciation of the word and the following meaning:
noun
1. the main character in Charles Dickens' 19th century fable A Christmas Carol, who, as a result of visits from several spirits, changes from a hard-hearted miser to a generous employer and philanthropist.
2. (often l.c.) a miserlymisanthrope.

MiD with Webster Unabridged does not have it. MiD with Wordnet Enhanced says:
scrooge (n) See niggard (n)
Thesaurus: niggard (n); skinflint (n); grabber (n); churl (n)

So I guess you get what you paid for it.

MSDict has the best definitions and a great thesaurus. I use it all the time. I also have BDicty, which is pretty nice but its dictionary definitions aren't always as useful as MSDict's. DanT gave a great example. I did a pretty extensive look at dictionaries a while back and posted it to the review section of my website. It covers the strengths and weaknesses of many of them.

get ProWord. You can store everything, (prc. and database file) on the card, and word lookups are still instantaneous.. Brilliant GUI, and more thorough then Noah Pro, MsDict, and others. This dictionary really deserves to be more popular. Download a trial for yourself...

Falafel - what do you mean that Proword is "more thorough" than the others? You would need to qualify this carefully.

TankerBob did a very good review (http://www.tankerbob.com/palm/) and qualified his statements carefully in his review of dictionaries (ProWord wasn't in the review).
A few interesting facts turned up:
1) A dictionary isn't necessarily better just because it references more words. Does it define these words too?
2) A lot of dictionaries derive from WordNet dictionary. There are some limitations with these types of dictionaries.
3) Comparisons of dictionaries can expand to other language translations and phrase books. (I think we are limiting ourselves to English Dictionary and Thesaurus).

I recommend ProWord.

For me, the test was simple. There were several words that I wanted to look up, and ProWord was the ONLY palm-based dictionary that actually had the words. My only complaint is that it doesn't have pronunciations, but the interface is quick, slick, and it hasn't failed me yet.

I realize that sheer quantity of words is not necessarily a good test, and sometimes the definitions may be terse, but that's typical with most PDA dictionary implementations. Besides, all I typically need is the general meaning anyway. ProWord is more than enough to give me what I need, and it gives it fast and efficiently.

Bdicty! you can highlight a word and do a stroke and you see an icon to look it up (together with the cut, paste, undo iconS)

OK, I may revise my recommendation. I just installed MSDict, and it is much more robust than I remember. Adding the hack and assigning it to the Find button seems invaluable. And it recognizes the Find button on the NX's Status Bar. Sweet!

Now to put it through its paces!

Another vote for MSDict

I thought the name alone of the Oxford English Dictionary would get a good following. The one thing I wish they did would be to put the LONG form of the dictionary in a package. What I've seen is the short, "normal" dictionary form.

Why would you not use it?

Leung, noah pro? umm it sucks =) coz it uses 1mp of precious ram as cache even if the whole 5mb dict is in the MS.

I never knew why i stuck with noahpro for such a long time. try bdicty.

MSdict is slow i think,,, i took it out before on my t665c..maybe its faster now
