View Full Version : Screen Fade

Not sure if this has been raised before but, every now and again, instead of a program crashing my T5 (and getting logged by CrashPro) the screen gets raster type crazing and the image fades to grey (although you can usually make out the proper display faintly in the background) - that's the best way I can describe it. It doesn't accept any further input and a pin in the back is needed to reset it.

As I say, when it happens it tends to be with something that might otherwise have caused a crash - and that's about every 6 months or so (unless I'm testing some software to dig out issues); the problem is that there's no crash message or log entry to give any clue as to what's caused it. It's not confined to any particular application, either.

This is with my T5 - anyone get it on their TX?

I actually had this same thing happen to me, on my T|X for the first time a few weeks ago. It was weird, my device was fine, then all-of-a-sudden my screen started to fade, it took about 5 seconds to go from fine to white. I have no idea what caused it, and it hasn't happen since.

Yes.
My T|C uesd to do this somewhat often and I've had it a couple of times on my TX.
No idea why this happens though...

My old T3 did the same thing, too.

This happens on the TX when you increase your clock speed and run certain apps. It's actually a data bus speed issue.

If you don't overclock your TX, you'll probably never see this (although if you install NVFS-unaware software, ANYTHING might happen).

I remember seeing this on my t|C as well and I wasn't overclocking.
There must be something else the triggers it as well.

This happened to me once when OffFlush v2 was flushing at power off  a Soft Reset fixed it :)
Since this was only my second day of using OffFlush I thought it might be the problem and restored a clean backup using NVBackup.
Considering so many people use OffFlush without problems I now think it was a coincidence.

I wish I knew what caused it as my TX runs very well otherwise.

EDIT: I do not use any overclocking stuff. My TX is quite standard plus most of Pruss's enhancements/fixes.

All the best, woz of oz

I can confirm this happened numerous times on my TX. I used WarpSpeed on my TX with pocketTunes 4 Deluxe, and whenever i tried to quit, it did it. So lesson is to not overclock pocketTunes!

neither over nor under-clock ... happens the same to me with ptunes just that i get white lines or white screen

so p tunes must stay at 312mhz

My T5 isn't clocked (over or under); another effect of this happening (and occasionally on a "normal" crash) is for the brightness to be reset to minimum. It seems to be a reasonably common failure mode.
