View Full Version : Photo Software Suggestions?

I have no problem with the photo manager that comes with the TX, except that it is ridiculously slow. Is this why people opt to purchase alternatives? Are they considerably faster? Suggestions? Also, does it take longer to simply open a picture from card than from device - regardless of software?
Along same line, is slowness why people purchase third party internet software for TX? I rarely use mine, despite wireless at home - probably because it often takes longer to surf than the wait for my wife to get off our laptop! Suggestions? Other reasons for switching? Not that money is burning a hole in my pocket . . .
Peace,
e
sad but true - I cherish my TX more than any other material possession in my life. I cherish Bonsai more than any other software on my TX.

SplashPhoto, Resco Viewer, GRX View, Acid Image, ect. ect. Just get Resco Viewer, they make VERY good products, that are updated regularly, and are constantly adding new features. The support is very responsive as well, just a good all-around purchase

I haven't evaluated Spalsh, but Resco is reputed to be the fastest of the lot. I can confirm that it is fast and flexible. Both have free trials, so check them out and see which is best for you.
You may also want to at least take a look at GrxView. Its lite version, which is free, might suit you too.

The problem with Splash and GRX View lite is they can only open .JPG's, I actually own SplashPhoto, and I've never been that impressed with it. Resco on the other hand is very fast, and can open just about anything.

Good point about file formats. For example, my screen capture program (HRCaptDA) stores bmp files, which would need to be converted to jpg to be displayed by the others.
Look in the Deals and Promotions section of this forum to find out how to get 20% off right now at Tams Palm store. There is a real steal for a bundle with Resco Explorer and Resco Viewer there.

Thanks much, will do.
Re web explorer, is upgrade because the 3rd party software is considerably faster?

Not sure what you are asking - Resco Explorer is a sophisticated file manager, not a web browser.
If you buy the Resco Explorer and Viewer bundle at TamsPalm store, for some reason the pair is less expensive if you select it from the Explorer page than if you select it from the Viewer page. With the 20% off (July 20-22 only), you can have both for less than the full price of Resco Explorer alone.

i know. my bad. i meant web browser. i always wondered why people bothered to pay for third party photo apps, web browsers, email apps . . . when all come installed with the tx. realizing how slow it takes to open a picture on the pre-installed software, i figured people paid for 3rd P software to open pix in a reasonable time same question re web browsers and, i presume, same answer. correct?
thx

Hi, there are sites that can compress other websites for viewing on PDAs and Mobiles.
Have a look at MobileLeap (mlvb.net/) and Skweezer (www.skweezer.net/about.aspx).
There is also pdaportal (www.pdaportal.com/) which has a list of PDA friendly sites.
I find Blazer fast using these :)
All the best, woz of oz

I have not purchased a web browser for my TX; I'm satisfied with Blazer for what I use it for. I bought Resco Photo Viewer for its extra features, such as the ability to view many different file formats. I don't think speed alone would have been enough to make me buy a reasonably expensive application by Palm standards. But the speed really is a very, very nice feature.
We all make choices depending on our own tastes and needs. For me, speed alone isn't a reason to buy extra applications, but for some it might be.

As for Email, and Web Browsers, I wish there was a nice commercial Email Client, but the two I tried (and know of) I didn't like. We are even more limited when it comes to web browsers, the only commercial one I know of is Xiino (can't remember the exact spelling, but it something like that). And I also liked Blazer better.
