View Full Version : Horizontal lines on TX

My TX has horizontal scan lines that flicker like a CRT monitor set for too high a scan rate or bad interlace timing. These lies come and go and are most noticable on dark backgrounds (ie. ZLauncher). I've tried under and overclocking, but they don't go away and actaully get worse when set to anything other than the default 312MHz.

Is this a "common" TX flaw? Do I have to return it to Palm - and will they even consider this a repairable/replacable problem? Is there an app/hack from a local Palm Guru that will minimize or eliminate it?

I'm forcing myself off my T3 and this is one of my biggest remaining issues on the TX. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The first thing you must do is back up your TX onto an SD card using NVBackup then do a hard reset. If the lines still appear right after the hard reset then your device almost certainly is defective. If they clear up after the hard reset then it is a software issue that can be resolved.

Thanks Gregte. I tried that a while back, but will give it another try for the heck of it. I convinced my brother to buy a TX and I'm jealous... His power button works and screen is crisp, clear, and brighter than mine. I'll report back as soon as I blast this thing.

Did you thoroughly and precisely follow correct upgrade protocol that involves renaming the Backup folder on your computer prior to syncing the new TX?

Symptoms of improper upgrade and/or incompatible third-party applications are outlined in the third green box of the Read This First flyer that came with your TX. Compatibility list at palmfocus.com.

The only time I've experienced these lines was when I was trying out DynaClock. I use WarpSpeed with no problems, but for some reason DynaClock gave me streaky lines flashing across my screen.

What software did you use to over/under clock?

DT: I didn't do any migration from my TT3, this is built from scratch with all apps installed from SD card. PIM data has not been migrated yet - I'm trying to build a usable TX environment, then I'll migrate only PIM data from T3 and reinstall all apps manually on the TX. Yes, combersome, but I'm a purist and always pick rebuild over upgrades on new devices.

PCQ: OC was done with PXA Clocker Pro 5.1

I just upgraded NVBackup today and want to be sure it's running smooth before my wipe & test.

Thanks.

scottl,

I had this when using an app that got corrupted. I replaced the app fm a newly d/l'ed version, in case one on my pc was bad & all probs went away.

I also use PXA Clocker & find that lines means you have over-clocked too much, haven't tried under clocking... However, there was a definite diff when I reinstalled...

Are you using any skinning program? If so, try a fresh install of app involved 1st & then try adjusting the settings for the skinning program...

Technical1: I still get the lines (though less drastic) after a hard reset and no apps, so it seems I have a hardware issue to deal with. Thanks for the tips though - they may all come in handy another time.

scottl,

are you still in the warranty period? If so, try to get another; but remember, it'll often be a refurbished model, but if it works 100% its better than your current one.... unless it is an issue of being properly charged.... do you charge it 4 hrs after it starts to lose power percentage ... I & others get 3.99 for a long while & then it rapidly goes down fm there.

Maybe a fresh charge will do it for you, if not - & in warranty - have 'em replace it.

Good luck.
