Now that someone has opened the CF door what's the next killer card?
Check out the CF cell phone card at http://www.mobileplanet.com. Unfortunately it is currently only for PPC - but time is on our side!

I e-mailed Sprint and got the following reply, wonder if it means anything? I WANT MY ONE-DO-IT-ALL DEVICE!

Sounds like an automated reply to me. Or at least a half-thought-out one.

Sprint's reply sounds like something a politician would write...

it works! it tried it. although i needed to upload the japanese driver to enable flash/in out. this really rocks!!
I have the Sprint PCS CF card and it works great with my laptop. SprintPCS Web Tech Support told me that "they are looking into drivers for the Palm OS5" Who knows, maybe they are. If someone has it working with the Japanese drivers...please share your info. It connects at 225-250 Kbps through the Sprint Network. That's an excellent speed.

Does it function more like a modem or more like a cell phone?
It operates as a modem or a cell phone. Spellman...care to share your driver? I'm sure potential users will appreciate your efforts.

I was wondering if the person who has the Sprint CF card can help me out. Would it be a good solution for a primary internet provider? If it really connects at that speed, that is way faster than my dial-up connection. I could just connect it with a PC card adapter into my home PC, and when I go on trips I could take it along with me to use with my laptop and *possibly in the future* my NX? A friend who works at Sprint told me he can set me up for $150 for the card, and $80 for unlimited high speed access. If this is true, I can chuck all my existing ISPs including this satellite system that has drove me nuts for the last 3 years (cable & dsl are not available here). I would spend the $80 a month for a card that I can use at home and on my trips since we travel a lot. Thanks for your time.

Which is it, did you use the Japanese driver or write your own? Your posts kind of leaves everyone hanging in mid-air. I doubt we'll see doing very much from Sprint as there have been rumors that they may go bankrupt soon :(.
Thank you much :)!
Ibooyaka...it works great but you HAVE to be on the Sprint PCS Network. If your travels take you off Sprint, you don't have a "roaming" option with the CF card.
Spillman...you opened the door and got your fellow NX/NZ users pumped about a driver you wrote. Now is the time to "SPILL man". We all would appreciate it.

NAL - thanks for the reply, I won't have to worry about being in the sprint network, most of the places I travel are in the sprint network. About the card, would I always have to use the battery or can I set it to use power from the pc or laptop? How is the speed & consistency and are there any FAPs (Fair Access Policies) ie Download/Bandwith limitations. Thanks for your time.

i would like to charge for the driver, still in a little more development before sale.
Ibooyaka...you only need the battery for the Palm/PPC. I don't know of any download limitations.
Spillman...I'm sure that people will pay you for your efforts...I know I will.

NAL - Is the speed really that fast (225-250kbps), a sprint manager told me the maximum speed should be about 110kbps, or at least he said that is what he has to tell customers? If it really does go that fast I may end up trying it for the 14 days.
When using my laptop it connects in that range (at least that is what it says).
I would be grateful to Spillman if he indeed developed a driver. He could also maybe make a deal with Sprint PCS.

Spillman, I think I can speak for quite a few people when I say that I'd be glad to pay you for the driver, but I need to know that it works before I go out and spend however much for the Sprint PCS CF card. Is there any way you can release a demo version with a time limit on it?

#1. This CF card sounds great, but $80/month?? Are most of you out there willing to shell out $80/month for highspeed mobile internet service? I would gladly pay $150+ for the CF card, but the monthly price is a bit out of my league.
#2. I have a feeling this Spillman is pulling our leg. Look how long it took to for someone to develop memory drivers. Now this Spillman talks about writing his own drivers so matter of factly, like it was a piece of cake. I won't believe it until I see it and certainly wouldn't send him any money until I've seen evidence that this driver exists. If your drivers are legit Spillman, then I apologize for doubting you.

You're right - it's too much $$$, even if it supplants my cellphone (so it would end up being 1/2 as much), but hopefully the price would come down soon.
And I agree Spillman ain't gonna Spill beans he ain't got!
I have gone to the website of the maker of the SprintPCS CF card http://telecom.growell.co.kr/eng/product/pr_sub2.htm I clicked on "Contact us" and wrote them that there are a lot of Clie' users interested in a driver to use their card. I suggest that as many of us as possible do the same and maybe they will respond with a driver or put pressure on Sprint to do so.
I will post any reply I receive, here.

I too, went to the maker of this card, and mentioned there's a market for their card, if they just write a driver for Palm OS 5!!!! Let's hope they understand they can write a bit of software, and sell to a another market segment...without changing the card hardware at all!
It has been 2 weeks since I E-mailed the manufactuer of the SprintPCS CF Card at http://telecom.growell.co.kr/eng/product/pr_sub2.htm I have not heard anything from them. We need to get a lot of people inquiring about OS5 drivers. Maybe they will wake up.
Spillman is kidding, it seems obvious to me.

I'm not sure the $80 option will work for this card. I'm a sprint user and I pay $80 for my phone which includes 2000 anytime minutes and unlimited internet access which I use with my NX70 via a cable. However, Sprint frowns upon what I'm doing with the cable. The cards they have to connect to laptops and PDA's go at $100 a month for unlimmited internet access.
It seems to me that the $80 a month is only inclueded because they don't think you can surf the internet that much with a phone, but if you are really gonna do some surfing they up it to $100 a month and that DOES NOT INCLUDE a phone line ONLY internet access.
IF what is being talked about will work, the card and $80 a month, I think it's a great bargian.
I have a plan from SprintPCS that includes 2500 anytime minutes, PCS to PCS - unlimited, Nights & weekends - unlimited, Internet access - unlimited, Voice communication - $0.20/minute. $115.00/month

It's not going to happen, Sony made sure of it! Why Sony is being that way makes no sense
How can anyone believe Spillman since that person wasn't even registered.
