Hello all,
Am about on give up on my UX-50 after all these years and only for one reason, the battery! I have tried various replacements including the power runner battery. While normal use is ok, as soon as I connect to the internet I get no more than 20-25 minutes, if that much with a battery (that was just charged off the cradle). This is with lowering the processor speed down to 32 mhz, lowering the brightness to a minimum, all to no avail. I have the same report with the Sony batttery.
It's kind of funny to note that CNET's original review of the unit gives it a rating of a an hour to an hour 1/2 on the internet??
My buddy has an IPAQ 4240 and gets on the internet for hours and have not yet seen him run out of power?? While he is surfing at an airport, I can only watch him cause my UX-50 died a long time before that. The IPAQ has a 1200 mah hour battery but even with the higher capacity, the difference is incredible. Maybe the technology is different now than in 2003 when the UX-50 came out?
Does anyone have any other reports? I am real curious?
So for now, I am on the brink of buying the 4240 for about 260 bucks brand new. I paid almost 600 bucks for the UX-50.
I really liked the UX-50 but unfortunately the battery is getting me down. Thanks for reading this!

1,200 mAH and 850 mAH is a huge difference.

If you want better battery life, search for a PEGA-EB40 on eBay.

Hello!

UX50 Wifi function is Power Monster, I've hear about it before

1. Try to search the PEGA-EB40 on Ebay.
2. Modify the Machine
2.1 Modify the Machine can charge from usb.
2.2 Take a Car 12/24V->USB charger & USB->Mini USB Cable
2.3 Take a 220v->USB Charger & USB->Mini USB Cable
2.4 Take a travel charger use AAx1 charger and request the Mini USB interface.

All of above is external power source.

Is the PowerRunner battery use for a long time?

Surprised that no one has come up with a solar panel mod/hack yet. Then again, how much current does this thing pull?

There are loads of solar chargers available for iPods - if you performed the USB charging mod, the majority of these solar chargers would work with the UX.

My EB40 has the mod on it. I'm going to do the UX50 as soon as I can get some tools ordered. The last set came from China with the bits rounded off!!
