I recently received my Sony Clie NX70V and I am attempting to install some MIDI files using the Sound Converter 2 software. Everything seems to work until I hit "Install on Next Hotsync". It comes up with an error that I need to have the Palm Desktop installed. But I DO have the Palm Desktop installed! First I tried with Palm Desktop v4.01 that came with my Clie, but then I downloaded the update from Sony to v4.1. In both cases, it failed to recognize Palm Desktop was installed. Searches in these forums, the internet, and news groups have failed to turn up anything. Please help.

Well after some experimenting, I have determined that it is a bug with Sound Converter.  I normally keep my Palm Desktop user data on a separate folder/drive for archive/backup purposes.  (Easily configured using Palm Desktop, Preferences.)  However, when I do this, Sound Converter doesn't recognize Palm Desktop as installed.  If the user data is in the default Palm Desktop folder (i.e. c:\program files\sony), Sound Converter works just fine.  I have made a report to Sony Technical support.  It will be interesting to see if they have a constructive reply or workaround.  Unfortunately, there is no *.ini or registry setting that might alleviate the problem.

Hope this helps.
