View Full Version : Way too much time on my hands!

I used to wait impatiently at my computer while my hotsync took FOREVER to do its job, so now I plug her in and get my daily domestic chores out of the way while I sync.
Today, for some unknown reason, this song popped into my head (to the tune of "My Guitar Gently Weeps" by George Harrison):
I washed all the pots
Made the beds
Did the dishes
While my Clie slowly syncs . . .
Just thought I'd share this bit of drivel with you all!

Wow, you can get all of that done? My Clie is much faster at hotysyncing apparently. The song that comes to my mind is one by Alabama...
"I'm in a hurry to get things done
Oh I rush and rush until life's no fun
All I really gotta do is live and die
But I'm in a hurry and don't know why"

I use my docking cradle and 'Local USB'. Is that what you wanted to know?

That's one of the coolest things about the NX (and probably the TG); hotsyncs take almost no time. It's amazing how much faster it goes. Time to upgrade :)

why is so?

If that last question was addressed to me, the NX has faster hotsyncs presumably because of the faster chip speed and maybe also OS5 helped optimize hotsync some too. But I bet it's mostly due to chip speed.

I have found that it's not only is faster in hotsyncing, but using MS Import as well. There is NOT a card reader out there that I have found so far that even comes close.

I love this song! But now I've got it stuck in my head, thanks! Anyway. There are a couple of things I've done to speed up the hotsync time on my T665c.
First, I don't update ALL of my Handstory clips every day. Just a select few, like the news clips.
Second, I don't know if any of you are using Pocket Quicken but I just realized you can have it sync only the week or twos transactions vs. all of them. That has REALLY saved time.
Third, I don't sync Avantgo every time I sync.
I thinkmy hotsync time has been cut in half with these modifications.

By far the slowest hotsync I endured was with conduit overkill:
Dataviz Mail synced to LotusNotes with attachments chosen
Avantgo with maximum sites allowed
Docs to Go with word, excel and powerpoint files synced
Never do that again. I keep most conduits defaulted to "do nothing".

I wanted to know what the person who started the thread was using. (my Clie slowly syncs)

Hi Rick 098,
I use a serial cable, but when I made up that song it was a bit of poetic license - it doesn't really take THAT long to sync! Just a matter of a couple of minutes when I download my daily AvantGo.

Oh, the sereal cable i hear takes about twice as long to sync.
And i know you were exagerating somewhat.
