Just curious.....has anyone tried using the Clie NX with the wireless card continously to see how long the battery lasts?
NX + WiFi card = tremendous battery drain. (approx 45mins? using netfont)

I think it may also depend on proximity to the Access point. In my house, I can go for well over an hour. Out front, using someone else's wide open access point, it only takes 30-40 minutes. Both were tested at full charge.

like I said that is indeed terrible. I can't believe sony wanted to charge $150 for it.
Looks like the NX/NZ are in a big need of a big update with better battery life.

This is true of any device accessing the internet. Doesnt matter if it is a phone, laptop, PDA, etc. The constant two way transfer of information is a severe drain on battery life. Intel is working on a new breed of mobile processor that will address this issue directly. As we near a time if wireless connectivity, imagine how useless it will be if your battery will only last 10% or 20% as long as it would not connected... we are years away from a true solution but they are working in it.
I have a friend who is a chemist that got a HUUUUGE grant to work with conductive polymers to create new long-life batteries for cell phone, laptops, PDAs, etc. He has created a battery the size of a book of matches that will power a cell phone for over 100 hours OF TALK TIME and over one month of standby time. Just research at this point but maybe someday...

For what it's worth, my NX is about 2x as good as my Sharp Zaurus with a WiFi

Thanks guys for the input. An hour or so is not bad. I would definately like to be able to check e-mail without having to turn on my computer everytime.

I have lasted surfing up to 2.5 hours using NetFront, before the battery warning, with a fully charged NX70V, screen at 1/3 brightness setting, WL100 CF WiFi card with powersaver mode enabled.

Is the sony CF wifi card compatible with laptop?
Considering the fast battery drain of the nx when using the cf wifi card, one cud also reuse the CF wifi card in a laptop ?
Has anyone tried it ...

Has anyone tried it ... The card actually makes a very fine laptop wi-fi card with an adaptor. Just use the IntelProWireless drivers.

I'm not sure the exact numbers, but isn't the Tungsten C rated at 10 hours of wifi useage? Thats something we all should be jealous of, and hopefully sony will make a similar feature in future clies.

i solved the problem of battery drain by just using the battery extender thingy that
uses aa batteries...i did a torture test and managed to get over 20 hrs of continuous wifi with brightness just over half . i used the new 2000mah NiMH batteries from GP (the green and orange ones). its useful at school when i need it to last the whole day and the added bulk dosent really matter for me bcos its defineately better then lugging around my heavyweight 3 kg laptop.

no. here is why:
10 hours like so -
T|C is next to access point
BkLight is off (i think its a frontlight now :()
You don't actually use it for anything
You You dont do anything else with the palm
You have a 100% battery charge
You are in the palm labs which block out all other interference
You are a Palm marketing guy and have upped the figures a little.
That is why we should not be jealeous. Other than that we are using them under real conditions - BkLight is on, we are actually doing stuff with it.
See, we are still the best. - We have a KB handy whilst we can also use graffiti and still see the web page, we will eventually get hres+ web browsing (i dont know, i dont have a WiFi card).

at uni i get about half an hour for 10-15% of the battery (minimum backlight, powersave off, using netfront)
not too bad, since i pretty much just use it to check email.

That may change with the WL110, the intel driver may no longer work with it.

Hmmm. I listened to an hour and a half of MP3s yesterday WITH the screen light on, spent a little less than an hour of WiFi time after that, edited a boatload of address book links and then played some games this morning and my battery is showing about 1/4 remaining. I keep reading people complain about battery life on the NX's but my experience is much the opposite.
So far, I've been pretty impressed with the battery life in my NX60 which is about 3 weeks old.

Funny. I'm just doing a test of the battery life of the NX70 with the WL100. I'm going 1 hour now .
