Interesting Conundrum

Awhile ago I asked for help about why my Windows XP computer no longer recognized my Clie, neither hotsync nor msimport or even cardle surfing would not work. I always got a device is not recognized, or every once in awhile I would get Sony Handheld -> there was an error installing the hardware. I had tried all the solutions in this forum, even from other device types and nothing seemed to work.
Well today I was feeling lucky and I tried again and amazingly it worked. I thought, hmm weird wonder what was different. So I did some experimenting, I backed up and did a hard reset and tried hotsyncing again and I had the same errors and problems again: device not recognized. I figured I pushed my luck, so I restored and tried again and amazingly it worked. So after a couple hours of one by one program installation through my 98 laptop, Windows 95/98 worked just not 2000/xp, I stumbled on the solution. For me the presence of the CF driver allows me to hotsync with my Windows XP desktop. I don't know why or how, it just works.
Strangest thing, wonder if I should let Sony know, as they couldn't solve my problem when I phoned them.

had the same problem and after hours on the phone with sony i turned to cliesource forum for help. I had to find the drivers in a weird place on my hard drive.

About once a month or so my NX and Win2K PC cannot communicate. The only way for me to correct it is to reboot PC, press cradle hotsync on boot and then reinstall drivers at PC prompt. I have no idea why, and don't have the time to find out, WEIRD.

There is an update here that says "The CLIÉ Handheld is no longer recognized by the computer after installing a newer version of the Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ software"

Love that CF driver even more now.

i have a long time problem with the ms import - the drivers install and all looks fine but i cant access the stick - no drive letter .
i installed and uninstalled ten times - tried to access via dos - i really dont know.... going nutz

When I had a Handspring Visor Deluxe (blue of course), the same type of problem happen and Handspring released a file called VisorUSBRegClean.exe to remedy the situation. Worked like a charm. Sounds like Sony may need to release a similar file? I still have the file if that helps. I run winxp pro, have the CF driver and haven't had any hotsyncing issues prior or post adding the CF.

Cradle surfing? Is that what I think it is? How does one cradle surf?

I meant using the softick program, and using it to connect to the internet through the computer. I always got the device not recognized error.
