My daughter's business gave her a T/X which she went through the setup on, never did load anything, then gave it to me.

When I first tried to dowload documents it kept trying to go into her user account. I found how to delete her user name in Palm Desktop but not in the handheld. I tried, several times to do a hard reset, but never get to the :delete everything: option. Now when I try to HotSync, it asks me if I want to create a new account on the p/c.

I believe what is best for me to do is to take it back to the way it was when it left the factory, but do not know how to do it. Or if there is a simpler way for me to preceed from this point, that would be preferable.

Download and install Dmitry's Hard Reset for OS5 (http://www.palmpowerups.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=36) then tap on it to do a hard reset. Since you can't hotsync to install use something like PInstall (http://pdassi.de/util/getdownload.php/PInstall45.zip?id=24476) or pfb to get it onto your device.

That would be because the device has a hotsync ID by the desktop currently does not have that ID.

Questions:
What OS is running on the desktop?
What exactly is the type of document you are trying to download onto the handheld?

To do a Hard Reset do this:

*Press reset hole in back of device with stylus while holding down power button
*Wait through orange palm logo
*Release power button when you see the gray palm logo NOT THE ORANGE ONE
*Press the up button on the five way navigator when it asks to "Erase All Data"
*Go through required steps
*HotSync device and create a new user name

Well, I have made some progress. After I got the T/X I bought and installed Documents To Go 10. I finally went on their page and discovered that the problem was with the install. I had to uninstall DTG 8, DTG 10, then install a fix software, then reinstall DTG8 and DTG10. So I am able to HotSync, find everything that I have transfered etc. So that problem is fixed. Now I would like to be able to delete her username on the handheld if I can do it without a hard reset. If not I will just leave it there. My next problem is with email. I have tried several times to set up the account but cannot access the server. I will get the details and start another thread on what it is doing. Thanks a lot for your help. I"m sure I will need more.

Open palm desktop.
Drop the users list at the top right and click Edit users.
Select the existing user and click rename.
Hotsync and the device will have the new name.

You can download and install a freeware app called "ChangeName". It will change the Username of your Palm and leave your computer untouched.
