Unless I am imagining things I think I've seen it mentioned somewhere that ZL has an image viewer capability... I am trying to figure out how exactly does it do it... Don't see any buttons or menu items.
I've looked through the manual, searched the forum... So far - no luck. Can somebody give me clue????

Preview and using AcidImage. Hold your stylus on the icon of the pic in the MS category or CF category.

Pls clarify - can I preview without AcidImage, but have to have AcidImage to view properly??
I downloaded a couple of jpgs - can't do anything with them...

You can preview w/o AcidImage *pretty sure* BUT it has seamless integration to ALSO preview in AI.

Are you in the file manager *hnot possible* but if you are in the zlauncher MODE and browse through your MS directory you should be able to preview the jpgs.

Yea, you don't need AcidImage, but you do need to be on the Memory Stick tab. But the built-in Image Viewer is as basic as it gets. You can't scroll images larger than the screen or nothing. It just displays a static image the same way it would display a background. Better than nothing though. And the AcidImage integration is great.

You also need to have a Sony T-665C, NR, NX, or NZ with the jpeg library in ROM to view jpgs. The docs talk about the specific files needed. Tap and hold on the image file in ZL, then select Preview. Works great.

OK. That's why I don't see the preview option.. - I have an SJ30...
I wonder if I can put this jpeg library in RAM. Can anybody share this file with me?
Thanks!

You can move the pictures to you SJ30 with PictureGear so you won't need the library in order to preview the images

Don't want to convert anything...
Much rather view jpegs directly from the ZL tab.

There are actually two files
JPEG Library
JPEG Util Library

Someone posted a link to download them on this site. Just do a search, or else, you might try the Yahoo Clie site (link on first page of this site).

Thanks!
Found the files, loaded them on my SJ30 and it works!
However, for some reason some jpeg images don't work properly. I found that it is not uncommon though - something to do with the format or compression variations.

Right some don't work, but I've found they can be changed to a jpeg that does work with an image editor. Splashphoto Desktop works great for this.

Does AcidImage have a problem with these different jpeg file variations, or it can read them all?
Also I found that it takes quite a while for ZL to open an image. Is AcidImage (integrated with ZL) much faster?

I've never used AcidImage, but ZL opens images pretty quickly on my T665C. I also have CrsImgView loaded, but haven't used it lately.

Right. MS access is rather slow on SJ30.
I installed AcidImage. Now all jpegs are viewable. Works well.

I have not met a jpeg that Acid Image could not open. Excellent viewer!

I just stumbled upon the JPEG decoder library files and have installed them on my SJ30. I'd like to comment on this thread.

1) ZLauncher can now preview JPEGs, but only those that are 320x320 or smaller, otherwise you get an error.

2) AcidImage does not start anymore with the JPEG decoder library files installed

3) The slow JPEG viewing speed on the SJ30 is not due to the slow memorystick transfer speed. This is easily explained by the fact that opening 200kb .prc pictures files are a breeze, unlike 30Kb .jpg files. Also, it is not due to the missing JPEG decoder library files. After installing them, the speed does not differ from before.

4) The main advantage for me is that I can now save my Zlauncher backgrounds as .jpg files, much smaller than .prc files.

I think you mean .... .pdb files.. not .prc for images with ZLauncher........ size may be a bit smaller in the MS/CF .... but the PDBs will be the same in RAM that ZLauncher actually uses..... it will take a 320x320 pic... no matter if it is a 85k .jpg or a 300k .bmp ... and translate it ... to a 200k .pdb file in RAM for use

You might be saving a little space on your MS... but when ZL uses the background... it all is the same size.... 200k (320x480 images are 300k .pdb files).

A little? I have 37 background files for ZL on my stick, only 3 of which are bmps. The bmps take 200K each, of course, for a total of 600K for the three. The remaining 34 jpgs take a total of only 890K, averaging just over 26K each. I'd say they save more than a little space over the bitmaps. :)

Of course, .pdb files. Sorry for the typo.

And as Tanker Bob remarked, I was not talking about the size of the pictures when they are displayed on the background. Naturally, they are big .pdb files as .jpg or .bmp cannot be placed in RAM. However, I am saving a lot of space on my memorystick.

I definately hear what you are saying tanker_bob! True enough if you are having lots of backgrounds on your MS. .... to me... it isn't to bad of a deal with .bmps .... .... Memory sticks are cheap... LOLOLOL. I tend to keep 10 or so backgrounds on my MS.... so.... even at 450k per .bmp ... only 4.5mb... I don't see that as too bad with it all on a 128mb stick... :)
