I am considering registering WiFile Pro for the use of WebDAV networking. My question is about it's registration process...
- It seems as though WiFile Pro has to connect to a HandsHigh server to complete the registration process.
- What happens if HandsHigh were to go out of business, etc? Imagine the scenario below to see my concern:
Due to some conflict, I am forced to hard reset and find that my backup(s) are corrupted. HandsHigh is no longer there. Am I left with a useless piece of software?
Down the road a year or so, I purchase a new device and if HandsHigh were potentially not there (website, server, etc) then am I left with a useless piece of softwar?
I am hoping that there is some sort of verification that gets downloaded to the Palm (a key like Pruss, etc) that would negate my above fears.
Can anyone please shed some light on this for me, either confirming or debating my thoughts? I really want/need the software, but am skeptical for the above reasons.
Regards,
Brian

I'm a registered user of WiFile Pro and I cannot remember that it communicated with the Handshigh server during the registration process. However it has been quite a while when I installed it on my TX, so I may just have forgotten it. When I first purchased it I received a registration code like for most of the programs in the Palm world. As far as I remember I entered it once and then WiFile Pro was good to go.
Cheers.

Thanks for the info. Do you also use it on your Treo 755p? If you haven't already installed it on there, would you possibly install it and see what the registration process is like?
Thanks.
Just so you know, I think WebDAV support is also slated to be added to Resco Explorer in the near future.

Hi _Em,
I asked about WebDAV support on the Resco forums and Jan (Explorer developer) said that it's implementation at this point is unlikely, unless there is a large base of users requesting it.

I'd welcome knowing a solution for this issue also. I was considering purchasing an application today (not from Palmpowerups), and I decided not to when I found the registration is tied to a specific unit. I also worry about the longer term, when I may still want to use the application, but the developer is gone when I get a new Palm.

The only reason Dmitry wouldn't want to open this to the public is because it's probable less than legitimate...

Actually the proposed solution is 100% legal due to fair use rights, but thank you for the kind words anyways...

No I don't use it on my Treo 755p. I use the new Resco Explorer which also offers mapping of network drives. So I don't see the use of WiFile Pro anymore.
Cheers.
