Hi,
just got my NZ90 yesterday and am since trying to sync it with Linux. I got it to work fine with '98 and VmWare, but native syncing is absolutly preferred.
I am using linux 2.4.21rc1-ac3 which seems to have support for the NZ90V if one can trust the visor.c sources.
Hotsync
When I start the hotsync from I get this in the kernel log:
May 1 14:25:25 bodolinux kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:1f.4-1, assigned address 6
May 1 14:25:25 bodolinux kernel: Manufacturer: Sony
May 1 14:25:25 bodolinux kernel: Product: Palm Handheld
May 1 14:25:25 bodolinux kernel: usbserial.c: Handspring Visor / Treo / Palm 4.0 / Clié 4.x converter detected
May 1 14:25:25 bodolinux kernel: usbserial.c: Handspring Visor / Treo / Palm 4.0 / Clié 4.x converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs)
May 1 14:25:25 bodolinux kernel: usbserial.c: Handspring Visor / Treo / Palm 4.0 / Clié 4.x converter now attached to ttyUSB1 (or usb/tts/1 for devfs)
Which seems to look OK. pilot-link however never connects to the device. It opens /dev/ttyUSB[12] but never establishes a connection. Anybody more success than me with this?
MS access
Almost the same story here. It almost works...
Connecting to the Linux box brings up this in the log:
May 1 12:17:11 bodolinux kernel: SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
May 1 12:17:11 bodolinux kernel: Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
May 1 12:17:11 bodolinux kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage
May 1 12:17:11 bodolinux kernel: USB Mass Storage support registered.
May 1 12:17:33 bodolinux kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:1f.4-1, assigned address 8
May 1 12:17:33 bodolinux kernel: Manufacturer: Sony
May 1 12:17:33 bodolinux kernel: Product: Sony PEG Mass Storage
May 1 12:17:33 bodolinux kernel: scsi0 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
And /proc/scsi lists the device just fine. However when I try to mount the stick, the systems first becomes sluggy, then hangs and finally crashes...
Network Sync
Using the wireless card the network sync represents the only working solution, at least for the moment. However even this has problems. While a regular sync of calendar and addresses works fine, I never got a backup to finish. I read reports that NetFront is the root of this problem. Have to check on this.
So my question now is if anybody had more success in integrating the NZ90 with a Linux desktop. (BTW, I'm using SuSE 8.0, jpilot, evolution and pilot-link, all of which worked fine with my old Visor Edge...)
