Competition is the key to innovation. With no competition zlauncher could stagnant and as new devices come out it will no longer fill the needs of users. Other companies will see a market to sell products and they will come out with some new innovating launcher, zlauncher will see their losing market and release updates with new features again making a full featured stable product. Companies will no longer be able to compete and pack up and leave. The cycle will repeat itself until the end of time. We must encourage competition.

What happens when ZZTECH becomes the standard interface and desides to incorp. its own OS into its UI? That would be cool or would it? Isn't that how Microsoft got started?

btw. i really love SS.. imho the best launcher for b/w devices, looks very nice with sony hires too but .. long time no upgrade ..

Um, have you ever used both Silverscreen and zlauncher? It honestly doesn't sound like it. As far as competitive products go, they just don't even come close. Silverscreen is the most ridiculous excuse for a launcher I've ever seen. It offers very little 'functional' advantages over the default launcher other than colors/themes, while still being very VERY large in file size. ZLs competition is with launchers that provide new functionality like ML, LX, Facer, and Yishow.

Please don't compare Silverscreen to any launcher other than the default launcher. (BTW, both suck.)

Here's you guys: "ZLauncher Rules" "All other Launchers COMPLETELY SUCK!" "People who chose to use ML or SS are just stupid...can't you see how ZL rules!"

I have tried ZLauncher and it is a very nice product. It is user friendly (although it takes a little bit of time to get used to all of its features....sometimes, isn't there such a thing as too much of a good thing is not good?), is loaded with a lot of features and is very customizable. It is stable, but I will say this....I have had to do a hard reset before with ZL and I have NEVER had to with either ML or SS (especially SS). Also, the crew at ZL are INCREDIBLY fast with their updates, additions and I've heard good things about their customer support. They are on to a good thing and have a large very loyal following.

However, for some of us, SS and ML (or even just one of them) are very good, functional launchers (for our needs). Before you completely bash and put down SS 3.0, why don't you wait for it's release to see exactly what new features it has, how well it functions, etc. I for one like the look and feel of SS. I don't need a button on the bottom (or top) of my screen to refresh apps, or to add a new folder, or any of the other features you can clutter your screen up with ZL (when I don't even use those features more than maybe once a week or even usually once a month at most). I like background images (and colors) and skins as much as the next guy, and that is one good thing in SS's side, how easy it is to make a skin with their Theme maker program. I have made some really cool, very custom to my likes skins for SS in less than 30 minutes. I don't think that anyone, even the very skilled, can do that with ZL.

Just some thoughts. It gets really old, when I post a message for those who are truely interested in SS or ML and you ZL Freaks come and make it difficult to get the information by posting an enormous amount of "ZL Rules and SS sucks!"

heh, I know I'll prolly get bashed for this, but I think zlauncher sucks... I use launcherx, and although I can't stand the fact that there is no support, and I hate the fact that benc stole my money, I still can't use zlauncher...

it's just not clean enough for me, the toolbar on the bottom sucks, and it is somewhat confusing... I know you guys love your launcher, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that very few people care about your oppinions. We all know zlauncher has the best support, and prolly the most options. It's just the fact that we've heard all of your bs before... it's stupid to keep bashing other launchers, and proclaiming that yours is the best. get over it and shut up.

Seriously. SS is a good program if you only want to extend your standard launcher with a few usefull utilities. I used it on my 615 with 20 programs and it worked great for me. I built my own them, based on th Palm logo and I was happy. Problem was, when I switched to the NX, I found myself installing about every program and game I could find. Even now I've got 148 programs installed and at that point ZL is really much better then SS.

About MS: Are you serious? They didn't start with a GUI. When they developed Windows, about everybody else was already using one, only MS, who got rich on selling a copy without hardware checks of the OS they developed for IBM (DOS), was still stuck with text entry.

I have always said "Try them all and make up your own mind" and I ment it. I do not care if you like my oppinion or not. This is a forum and it was set up for just that, to voice your oppinion. Some oppinions help people solve problems for others, some are just a voice in support of a good or bad product. I will continue to voice mine in support of Zlauncher, you support what you wish. But I would care to say that the reason for your outburst is for the simple fact that you spent your money on SS, and according to your post, ZLauncher was to complicated for you. I am not trying to start another launcher war here. But I have found no other launcher as clean and easy to use as ZLauncher.

OH Yah! I have made 4 or 5 skins for Zlauncher in well under 30 min. Thank You Very Much!!!!!!!! (and it showed)

Actually ZLauncher has the ability to have the cleanest interface all the way to the most complex interface of the launchers available today.

Opinions, however, *are* relatively important here. Would you really find much assistance here if everybody refrained from voicing their opinions? I know that ZLauncher happens to have a fairly large market share (and a vocal share at that) but that's not ZLauncher's fault... or maybe it is.

I don't know... all I know is that if everybody who loves ZLauncher *stopped* posting about the fact that they love ZLauncher, there might not be much to talk about in the Clie Launchers forum.

Of course, I myself use ZLauncher, so I guess I'm one of the "ZLauncher FREAKS".

I don't think the issue here lies with opinions, per se, but rather with the negative implications that go with them - i.e. "If you don't use ZLauncher, you're a moron..."

I've been using Palms since they first came out, and as such, consider myself a step above a newbie. I have also tried ALL the launchers out there, but kept coming back to Silverscreen because, IN MY OPINION, it offers ME the cleanest, most aesthetically pleasing interface, without adding features that I won't use. Does this make me a moron? Does it imply that my knowledge of Palms is lacking? Does it mean that SS sucks? Hardly.

So, no, I don't think there is anything wrong with posting opinions, just so long as it is clear that what's being posted is an opinion, and not a value judgement against those who (politely) disagree.

To each his own. I bought SS first (bad decision #1), then LX (bad decision #2) and now use ZL. I agree that competition is good... but personally haven't seen any in a long time. I honestly can't imagine someone besting ZL ... but I guess you never know.

Actually I would consider using SS if it had one very important feature, and that would be support for the jog wheel!! everytime I used it all I got was some recently used program list. I'm currently trying to decide between ZL and the Clie launcher. Both are pretty good once you get over the learning curve.

I bought launcherx, not silver screen.

and this wasn't an outbirst only, as you put it, voicing my oppinion. What I was getting at is that a lot of zlauncher people bash others, therefor I guess you agree with me.

Yes, it is one thing to say I like Launcher whatever and here is why. It is another thing to post "ZLauncher Rocks" 100 times (do a search on some of the users' posts and you will see what I mean) and nothing else of any value.

If the UDT got cut for bandwidth waste, all the Rocks and Sucks posts with no substance should get pruned too.

Sadly, these days censorship has been reduced to a dime-store concept that people love to bandy about without any true consideration for what it actually implies. Raising this hated specter so glibly, and in jest, only serves to demean those who have been, and are currently laboring under its oppressive yoke. Clearly, it is not censorship to opine that more value could (and would) be brought to these boards by discouraging these sensless posts, seemingly meant only to boost the egos of their respective posters. Indeed, "unregistered" is demonstrating his (her?) right to free speech by suggesting that this privately run website take action to free up bandwidth and server space for more worthwhile, and ultimately useful posts.

That said, as a compromise, perhaps a "Rocks and Sucks" forum could be initiated for those whose insecurites are worn closer to their sleeves than the rest of us?

Yeah, I might have been hitting the caffine a little hard last night. Between that and an incredibly unpleasant flight from NYC to LA, I wasn't feeling particularly, uh, gracious. Still, I stand by what I said, even if you weren't the person I should have been saying it to. Talk to me after Wednesday night, when I attend The Matrix premiere, and I'm sure I'll be in a much more accepting mood.

OK So Silver Screen isn't quite as glamorous as some of the other packages around, but provided you delete the themes you don't want it deosn't take up that much room and using it with Butterfly and other skins you can get some pleasing effects.

So let's stick with the SS rocks

well there are actually 2 things why I recently jumped into launcher X, the jog dial isn't supported in a way i would like to it is, and since SS 2.1 there is no button to show the icon/tab bar or switch between them, i have go to the menu for it! i really don't understand why they left this switch

If SS had the tap & hold feature, bringing up a list of options (beam, info, delete, etc), I'm sure it would be a better competitor among power-users. ZL, ML, and Yishow all have this feature, and this feature ROCKS.

actually silver screen HAD this feature up to version 2.1 (which i still keep on my trg pro) and i really don't know why this feature isnt'w in present version any more ...
it's kinda stupid ..
