View Full Version : Zire72s and 4 GB HD SD Card

Hi all - I've tried the suggested FAT32.prc file from other forums to get my Zire 72s to read 4GB SD cards, but when I put the card in the slot, nothing happens. My Palm doesn't even recognize that a card has been inserted.
I've done all the steps (changed the Creator/Type ID of Fat32.prc, renamed it etc.), done the soft reset several times, and still nothing.
Have any of you had success? IF so, what am I missing?
Feel free to email me if you have any questions or suggestions.
Thanks!

Do you have a SDHC card or a regular 4GB card? Unfortunatley only the newest treo's can handle the SDHC format cards. You need to get a regular 4GB SD card for it to work. Beyond that I don't know first hand. Good luck

Ahh!! Maybe that's it! I have a 4 GB HDSC card that I got for my camera. That's the card I was trying. I'll see about getting a "regular" SD card. All I care about is the extra storage space, so as long as I have 4 GB, that's fine.
Thanks for the suggestion!

I learned from reading the specs long ago that the Z72 has a limit of 2gb SDram... I may be wrong but that's what I read when it first came out. Let me know if you get a 4gb chip to work.

Z72 can read at least some 4GB cards if FAT32 file system is installed. It cannot read SDHC as there is currently no SDHC driver for it, and my project of backporting the Treo driver has hit a wall.
Maybe this should be a new thread, but I've got a question about the high capacity cards, namely the 2GB.
It seems that whenever the cards get near full, the read/write access to the cards slows down tremendously. Is this expected performance? Or do I just have low quality cards?

Dmitry, I have seen your name hundreds of time at many Palm-related forum, esp. this one. I think many many of us, including me, have been waiting patiently for your SDHC driver for non-Treo devices and wish that we will see a sticky thread which announces the slot driver very soon. So, you have now come to a technical problem. I think you may share your problem to let more ppl. understand your situation or even help you. I am not a Palm programs developer and thus I probably cannot help. There are many of us here, even if we cannot help you directly, we can give you some suggestions and opinions which may help with your job.
This is only my humble opinion, please do not take offence. If I really do, I apology in advance.
Anyways, thanks for your great work!

sure: uncumented and strange calls at the end of the later treo DALs

Have you compared these calls with other Treo apps., e.g. drivers, non-driver app., esp. communication-related? I think that the calls may be some clean up calls for restoring the slot into read-write mode, unlocking. Since Treo is with phone feature, these calls may be for resolving conflicts between the driver and the communication modules.
