Some of you probably know me from TH55 forum, doing TH55 repairs and parts sale. Finally I get my feet wet with UX and NX series. We'll see how it goes. If any of you need some parts, PM me first and I'll see if I get them. Here are what I got so far.

As much as one NX73V, 3LCDs, 3NX73 cameras, would cost. ;)

Thanks for offering this service.

OMG, such sweet memories. I just found out that my NX only "burns" 1gig MS cards (destroys the cards permanently), it likes my 2gig card, so I guess the slot was not busted after all :)

By the way, have you seen NX's that "think you pressed some button" when you turned the screen hinge? For example, launching an app which is associated to a button.

My greatest wish would be that I could upgrade the RAM size & OS version of my NX73 to that of the TH55 and make WIFI built-in, though, which doesn't seem possible...

Sorry to hear that. I'm not sure if the NX LCD fits NR. Let me check and get back with you.

I do have plenty of NR bottom half (keyboard, camera, and swivel assembly). For some reasons they last longer than the LCD.

I found one broken NR-70V with LCD in my NR piles, took the LCD out a test it. Unfortunately it was DOA and it is not the same as NX LCD. Oh well, back on the hunt of NR LCD.

I have an nr70v with a broken screen, actually I think its ok, it works for about 1 sec when turned on, then disappears (i get white and black lines).

Have any idea what it could be?

DanT

My guess is the bad LCD connector in the motherboard side. I have about 20 NR70V motherboards, I can swap yours with mine and see if that fixes it.

Well, at the moment I don't really have a reason to work on it, I have my own nx80v. I opened it about a month ago, but didn't see an obvious error.

Where is the screen connector located? is it at the back, or i need to go as far as where the keyboard is? is there a chance I missed it?
I took images of it uncased, I can have a look there, if you tell me where.

DanT

There are 4 connectors, 2 at the back of LCD and 2 at the bottom of the motherboard.

If you open the back and look to the motherboard, they are underneath the motherboard facing the keyboard. They are on the other side of the camera connector.

Guysoft,

The NX70V and the NR70V screens are the same. I used an R screen to fix my X Clie. Also, the NX73 and NX80 are the same, though not the same as the 70v's. As for the lines on the screen, i fixed a couple of those with a small piece of plastic. Another 1src user told me how. If you take the front bezel off the screen, there is a small gray bar at the top. If you put pressure on this bar, it might fix the picture. I was able to test this by putting pressure on the plastic cover at the top of the screen.

Hope this helps,
Dave

dear guysoft ;
may be something like resseting the bios in PC's exist with clie ?
This is my history ;
I bought used "sony clie nx80v" and it has a little problem in camera (it was noisy). I decide to open and fix it and I foolishly (of course with care) opend it but
after opening back cover and seeing it (very complicated and I scared!) and close it again. Of course First of all disconnected the battery and one time (when cover removed) I connected battery and it powered on ; but after that it never turned on again. Wen I putting it on cardle it charging (orange light on) and after some hours orange light goes off. But by pressing power button it not turn on.
All story from buying and this event is only 2 days! And I am very sad! Can you know somebody to help me about what happened ? and may be I can fix it ? I am from IRAN and there is no service center for clie in my country.

thanks a lot for quick response

I know how you feel. I am in Israel and sony don't officially support clies here nether. They are in fact, a real pain when it comes to anything.

I can just tell you the obvious: make sure you didn't connect the battary the wrong way round, do a hard reset (press the reset button under the memory stick while holding the power button down), and hope it works.

Is there no some kind of life?

hello
it means nothing worked and confusing!
but would you note to this points : (may be you have or you heared common experince)

- I have checked power button and it function is ok. (also I have checked battery connector and I think it is ok too)

- About LED; it only comes up on only when putting it on cradle.

- when I opened it I disconnected battery and once I connect battery (when case is open) and it powered on but I disconnect battery again. And after that it never turned on again.

- if I understand it! I think problem is something like that; i.e. something like error in BIOS in PC's .

- battery voltage is never over 5 V (mostly ~4) ; (when battery disconnected); I don't know may it must be over 5 or (just 5.2) to power it up ?

- there is empty connector with ~5 pin on the corner of mainboard. May be that is something for flashing memory or resetting it ? (something like resetting BIOS).

- I also checked all boards accurately and I didn't find any physical damage in electronic elements.

- finally you know were is the nearest sony service center for repairing it ? where repairing it is easy and not too expensive ?

- sorry for two much questions!!

I've got a sick NX70. I've had it since it was new - it's my baby, my precious. I'm going to be lost without it.

Everything has worked just fine, until this morning.
Out of the blue, the device suddenly is acting funny. The power button doesn't turn it off, it goes to back light off mode automatically, the scroll wheel doesn't respond to the push command... When I do a reset, it gets stuck. It will reset eventually, and then works fine for a while - but then it goes all bad again.

Any thoughts or ideas? I've never seriously dropped it, I did nothing different this morning.
Thanks!

Hi all, I was just browsing through the forums and saw this thread. DanT is very capable and also has been able to collect a good inventory to scavenge repair parts from, however, for any of you with repairs that you either do not want to attempt yourselves, or find too difficult, cannot get parts for, or that DanT has no parts/cannot fix, etc, you may want to consider trying this: One man company fixes PDAs (http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=28522)

e-Bay store here (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZitsnothere)

I have not tried him, but from the article, describing the exact problem that I have with my NX - dead camera :(, I will probably give him a try. Looks like a pretty good alternative to the costly OEM support of Sony.

Post any results/experience you have if you try it.

Cheers!

Hey DanT,
Are you still in business?
I wouldnt mind getting my old NX80 back to working, (digitiser problem) and have a TH55 with working camera and cracked screen that might be good for parts.

Hey, seeing this thread reminded me that I used to love my NX70v, I got it out and it's in perfect condition. I feel like getting it back into action, but I've lost the software disk. Is it possible to download this or buy a CD anywhere? Thanks.

Thks Dan,
are the screens interchangeable with older units like, 70 or 80 versions... They look very close to size? any recommendations on best clie's??? thinking about ux40-50's but they have different screens and wondering about battery life. I have 3 bat's, nice cover, and all the extra'z for the nz90.

Thx

I have an NX73 and my power button stopped working while the device was in hold. After 3 months of not being able to find the correct screwdriver to open it up, I pried the button off and used a paperclip to turn it on. I now use the datebook button to power up, and a program called Hi-Launcher to turn it off. Do you know the correct screwdriver? BTW I've been looking into TH55 lately. I can hardly wait till someone puts one on craigslist.

The screwdriver is a 5-star 360/x50 HFA tool. You can get it on ebay.

I have 6 TH55s (/U, /E1, /E2) in excellent conditions. Just PM me if you are interested to buy one of them.

I opened up my NZ90 LCD and studied it. I think with a minor modification you can use the LCD from NX73V/U. It just a matter of removing the 4 hard button on the LCD frame off the front of the LCD and peeling off the ribbon cable connector for the hard buttons that is glued to the back of the NX73V/U LCD. The NZ90 cable connector is bolted on to the bottom of its LCD frame.

NX80V/U LCD may have the same setup as NX73V/U.

Good luck!

Dan,

My children recently broke the screen from my old TH-55, which by the way had turned into a great gaming unit for them. Do you have the replacement screen? It doesn´t seems that the digitizer has been damaged. Thanks for your help.
