Is there an exact release date?

Will I be able to flawlessly transfer from the T5 to the Foleo? With the exception of "Memos" I don't think I use any of the other PIM apps. I assume there is some sort of Memos type app I can use to transfer manually if need be my memos. I use a number of palm 3rd party apps SplashMoney, Timesheet (tract hours worked), Northglide Uninstall (and companion type apps that come in that pack they offer), Mobile Systems Database, MediaMan (free DVD collection type app), Converter and Formulas (all purpose convert something to something else apps), MMplayer, a handful of solitaire games that would be nice to have for those moments where I have nothing better to do while out and about. And is there some form of Documents to Go kind of app that basically works with as an MS office replacement. I personally use OpenOffice on my PC. Seeing as the Foleo will have Linux OS its possible that there could be a port of OpenOffice to support that but I'm not holding my breath on that yet so anything that fully supports MS office compatability will work just fine.

I've been hoping that a Linux based device would come out that is like a mini laptop since before I got my T5. To me the T5 with a wireless keyboard was the next best thing to that. I like to use my T5 not only as a personal organize "home improvement" style (grunt like Tim Taylor) but also as a mobile device to watch video on and pass the time with solitaire and other games. Ultimately I'd love to take everything thats on my PC and have it on a mobile device that fits in my pocket but it appears that technology hasn't quite got there but it looks like the Foleo and I remember seeing some other device I think it was by sony with a similar idea are heading in that direction. The idea of a laptop that fits in your pocket and running the same apps on your PC and mobile device is where I would ultimately want to end up.

Share your thoughts, advice, comments etc.

Actually, I wouldn't want to get my hopes up if I were you. There was absolutely no mention of 1) syncing with devices other than smartphones/Treo's and 2) syncing with PIM applications.

Hawkins only mentioned syncing e-mail with Versamail, so that would be the only part that would work on a T5.

Not sure if this is what you wanted to hear. :D

I won't be keeping the T5. I just want to know if I'll be able to use the apps on the device. Last I heard was that palms linux device would also run palm OS software but there is so little detail on their site about the device I figured more information would be gained by posting here. Does the Foleo not hotsync per se with the PC as a backup and install new software like current devices? I can make due with certain apps being replaced by similar or exact matches done by someone else. I'm just trying to gather as much info as I can until the its out. It appears to be a logical step for an upgrade. Previous devices have been side steps since only fluff features were added to what I could already do with my device. My main point of concern is will I be able to do everything I come to use the T5 for now and do even more with. While I know I will be able to do much more with the Foleo than I do now with the T5 I just want to make sure I will be able to use the same apps or similar if not exact alternatives of them on the Foleo. Of course its possible at this stage I won't be able to get 100% answers unless there are people out there with pre-release models of the Foleo. I definitely don't expect it to be my ideal device but it looks like the way I figured the market would turn and be a laptop in your pocket kind of thing.

EDIT: Are there alternative devices to the Foleo? By alternative I mean same concept design laptop in your pocket form. I don't have and probably never will get a PDA phone.

Foleo isn't exactly pocket form. It's rougly the same size as a sub-notebook. Now THAT's an alternative!

Dude, thanks for the pic, but PLEASE resize it--it throws the whole thread's formatting off.

I'm still in the gathering info stage and haven't seen anything I don't like about the Foleo. One big unanswered question is will it run plam OS apps as well? I wear cargo pants and the size is just right to fit in the side pocket. I'm undecided on getting it or not until I can get more info. Plus still no exact date on when it will be out. And I don't even know if there is any similar devices to it besides the sony thing I mentioned of which I know nothing about other than the same concept of fold with keyboard and it runs windows XP on it I think it was. I'd have to do a search to find it again as it was some time ago now. Clie Patra mentioned sub notebooks but I never heard of it so anything you can share on them would be nice. I have an old laptop that has more or less not been used for many years now because I have had no need of it. But I like the idea of having everything I can do with my T5 in a hybrid of the two ideas. I currently use the wireless keyboard with my T5 when I need to enter alot of text, but its rather cumbersome to have to set it up when needed and the thickness in my pocket is mildly annoying.

I haven't heard -any- mention of the Foleo being able to run PalmOS apps. It's a "really nice idea", but not likely to happen for a few years (unless one of the Palm uber-geek hackers take a shot at it of course...).

Remember, this is not a "mega Palm". This is currently just a low power Linux laptop with software geared to work with files hotsynced from a Palm (a Treo specifically and -maybe- others)...

If you are right then so much for palms statement some time back about their new devices with linux would rus the palmOS software too. I hope that they don't back out on that statement and alienate even more users than they appear to have done with this new formfactor over the old school style we are all used to with the stylus screens. However its not a total loss as long as there are applications that are just as good or better than the ones I have that I payed money for. I highly doubt the companies that made the software I have are going to cross OS them if they haven't already done so seeing as linux on PDAs isn't brand spanking new. Also still no more details on a release date I had thought by now there would be something more definitive than "this summer" since thats been on the site like that for quite some time now.
