I have recently discovered that with version 1.1.1 of Google Maps, and version 1.3.3 of contacts, the "Map" feature works perfectly on my Palm TX :)! All aspects of the afore mentioned software seem to work perfectly, except for a small visual bug in the Contacts application. Just thought I would pass that along.

"map" feature? What is that?

The "Map Feature" is if you have a contact with an address, you can hit the map button and it will automatically show that location in Google maps. Cool huh?

version 1.3.3 of contacts
Q: Where did you get version 1.3.3 of Contacts? I thought the TX had version 1.2.5.

My friends 755p I think, although I'm not sure, because it could've been from his older 700p. I'll ask him next time I see him.

Well, I tested with the files from the 700p, and they're version 1.3.1. There's no Map option, even though I did copy over a MapLib.prc file.

They must have been from the 755p then, now that you mention it I believe this was one of the "new features" that the 755p had.

Sorry, but I will not distribute copyrighted material. Your only option is to 1) Find someone with a 755p and kindly ask for the files or 2) Get them from the Internet somewhere, but as I've said before I will not distribute copyrighted material.

No need for installing Contacts from 700 or 750, etc. Just Contacts from the TX + GoogleMaps + KwikMaps: http://palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=125054

It will allow you to choose the browser you want for the maps: GoogleMaps, AvantGo or Web.

Then, you click in the Contact, click on the icon that looks like a handheld with 2 right arrows on the top center of the screen, youŽll see the familiar "Dial" phone or "Email" and at the bottom a Compass icon next to "Address", tap on it and GoogleMaps will open the address if it is a US one and well written.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks Greek for the very nice alternative, I wish it would work with just a zip code and not the full address, like Contacts 1.3.3 does. But other than that it is pretty much the same thing :)

Kwikmaps works... the trick is that instead of a Map button, you have to select the Connect menu button, and then select the address line.

I think Sprint provides them in a nice carrying case :)

There is no reason to get the 755p ROM, almost everything will give you a 0505 sys errors. The only things I could get to work were the PIM's, and the only functionality gained is the "Map" feature, but as stated earlier in the thread that can be supplemented with Kmaps.

I found a 755p rom and installed the contacts prc's the same way 700p users got the map function to work.

Googlemaps.prc
Contactslib-p1ct.prc
contactslib-p1ct_enus.prc
contacts-Padd.prc
contacts-padd_enus.prc

The map function works, but the button placement is a little bit off, though it doesnt bother me. (The map button floats around the address area, you can not click on the map button with the stylus in full portrate, you have to use the 5way to click it. The button works correctly with the dia up, and in landscape.)

If we could somehow get Googlemaps to register with Quick Connect (just like Articulation that registers itself as a Dial program), then we could simply select Googlemaps from the dropdown menu in "Settings..." of Quick Connect (tap pda with two arrows icon).

I believe that map function is infact in TX, but for some reason Contacts and Googlemaps are not aware of each other (not registered).

Cool feature with Maps in Contacts. I had to get KwikMaps to active the settings under Maps. Of course this only works with Wifi. Is there a way to save the map to view off-line? The only way someone suggested to me to:

Edit the contact and under Web Site, put file://<cardname>/<folder>/<filename.jpg>. For example, I have file://card2gb/dcim/dsc00017.jpg.

So far I have not figure out to save the map as a jpg.
