View Full Version : Ctrl button responding slowly

Hello All,

the Ctrl button responds very randomly recently: mostly nothing happens if I press, I have to press it several times (at least 8-10x) or hold it for a long time (several seconds) after it registers.

Also, the BS/Del button has started to respond quite slowly, sometimes a 2nd/3rd push is needed.

Anyobody experienced something similar?

Thx in advance, K

That happened to me too. It's the keyboard microswitches that have started to "flatten". You could open the device and try to reshape them, but in the long run there's little you can do, short of replacing the keyboard PCB.

Ditto....

I too am having the same problem concerning the BS, e, and the number's 1, 2, & 3 keys.

I'm sending my unit out to DanT for him to replace the keyboard tomorrow morning!

cann anyone tell me if the "Back", and those three keys next to it that launch specific applications are part of the keyboard?

Yea, if you need replacement, I got plenty of stock. Just PM me.

I think this is what iDG is referring to. Each button has a tiny brass dome underneath it acting as a drum. When you "beat" the drum, the dome will flex down and make the "clicking" contact. After years of the button usage, flexing the dome ups & downs, the dome will eventually fatique and "flatten". I don't think you can fix it other than replacing the board like you see below.

Just to make sure... have you tried a hard reset without restoring first?

Not yet but then I might give it a try

That's a thing you can try with almost no risk, as the Clié can do a full memory backup (Prefs/Power Saving/CTRL-R/Backup). If it works you can then pick the applications one by one. If not, just hard reset again and restore...
