I checked all the other Clie forums the other day and the TH55 Forum is pretty-much the last one standing. Very few recent posts in the other forums and for some, no posts in weeks or months...
Does the TH55 have legs or WHAT???
WOOHOO!

Maybe the other clies are on such life support that it takes all the users time to keep it alive and no time to post ;) Poor things.

Ok, the typical Clie user generally has a surplus of time and money.Falling into this category is those willing to hack, experiment and be persistant. So in a way the nutcases are the last men standing...
Not all of the TH-55 users have bluetooth, nor use their Wi-fi or even their cameras. Probably because they love their hi-res 360x480 screens and don't want to go to Palm Tx?
If Sony sold their source code and hardware rights, I wonder if future TH-55 could be manufactured?

You almost hit it right there for me, Phil. (Not sure about the surplus of time and money.) I neither hack nor do I have Bluetooth. Wi-fi is essential, but sparing. (I finally got a remote email solution that is both secure and convenient, namely using the mobile Yahoo to check my home account via the Web.) I read e-books and the daily news via Sunrise/Plucker, and I do all the normal PDA things, plus Wordsmith and Docs to Go.
But the biggest thing is the huge, beautiful screen. Until I'm willing to go small and square (a la Treo), this is still the PDA for me. Thanks to Vincent in Macau, I have a good strong battery! Still waiting for the next device that really does it for me. Until then long live TH55!

OK, you've got my attention. What can a TH do for me that my venerable ol' NX70 can't.

Frankly ?
...
...
practically nothing
TH55 is a wonderfull machine, almost perfect.
Nx 70 is a wonderfull machine too.
It's design is marvelous except for the keyboard.
NX80v is not as beautifull (thicker) but has a better keyboard.
TH55 have more battery life, clie organizer, more memory, bluetooth aand wifi ... that's all.
But no keyboard, no audio remote and no possibility to overclock the CPU for video.

I'm amazed at all of the posts since I staarted the thread, but I think that's the point: people with other the Clie's have (for the most part) moved on to Treos and the like.
My unit has the original battery that came with it when I purchased it three years ago. In fact, the battery is so strong that when I had DanT rebuild my TH this last week, I told him it didn't need a battery replacement.
I think that the TH55 hit a sweet-spot for functionality that's really unbeatable. That and the fact that of the PDA's that are currently available for Palm OS, it's about the best. Used TH55's are holding their value amazingly well, but even for the $200-300 that mint ones go for, there's really not much that can touch it. VZ's are untouchable price-wise, and if I'm going to get something that think, I might as well get a UMPC.
Gotta say though, that I LOVED the camera on my NZ90, but I DID NOT love having to carry around 4 extra batteries everywhere I went.

Thanks for the pointers. I'll keep my eye out for a 2nd hand TH55.
One of the main reasons I've stuck with my NX70 (even replacing my dying NX70 with an almost pristine 2nd hand one) is that it supports dual memory card slots.
With 4GB in the CF-II slot and a 1GB MS-PD and PowerRun and JackFlash to manage my FlashRAM loads, I rarely have to swap memory cards.
It is going to be a tough ask for any other device to win a place as my organiser of choice.
I'm now trying to resuscitate UX forum. Check out this thread:
Another Sony CLIE PEG-UX50 Repair & Parts Shop (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127817) and my work of arts (based on eva-01 comment :p). Lots of PMs, emails, and repair orders came in.
;) :D :)

ooooooooooooooooo, I can hear it now...
"Stairway to Clie-Heaven"
no, no, was it "Nights in UX-Satin" ???
Oh well...
Here's an important point about why there are less and less posts on older Clie's. If you look at the types of threads that are started when a device is new, vs the type of threads after a year or two, you'll see that initially there is so much discussion based around learning what the device can and can't do. After a while, everyone's pretty much talked out, leaving most of the threads coming from newbies who can't find the info by searching.
I've had my TH-55 since they were first released. And I find myself mostly posting here just to answer other's questions, not starting my own threads. I'm sure there are a lot of owners of NX-70's and other older Clie's that just go on about there business using there device.
As a point of reference, I bought a HP-41C calculator back in 1981. I had it repaired by HP once, and still use it today. 26 years... I wonder if I'll still be posting about the TH-55 in 2030?

I think that's partially true, but I believe that my counterpoint would be that we in the TH55 community are still DISCOVERING new things that our devices can do.
I also (and this was the idea behind the original post) believe that more people in turn DISCOVERING the TH55, because they're coming up empty when looking at alternatives.
Still using my TH in 2030? Perhaps not, but my guess is that my TH (if it doesn't get stolen or broken) will still be USEFUL many years from now.
I can't say that for many devices I've had, your HP calculator notwithstanding...

Still got an HP41C myself, but I use the excellent free software version on my Palm instead ( less to carry)
Yep. I'm still using my SJ30 with a T615C as my backup, and using my Visor Edge to back up my and my wife's Kyocera 6035 (Palm OS) cell phones. No need to ask in the forums, they're just working as always.
Chuckle, and the Powerbook's from 2000, the Subaru is from 1988, and the Dodge is from 1969-- all bought used over the years, carefully, from people who wanted newer stuff.
I visit the TH55 forum because I figure in the next few months there will be people reaching for the new Apple phone; I'll be ready to buy their good used TH55. "No hurry" (grin).

Well, I'm still using my Sony SL10 bought in 2002, maninly I use it for ebook reading with Plucker, playing some games (sokoban, sodoku, backgammon, etc.), limited MP3 playback, write some contents of my blog with CardTXT or Document To Go 6, and I use it as a backup for my contact lists of my beloved TH55 (I own three E1) too.
As I never sync my SL10 with any computer I do not have any issues or questions to place in the Older Clies forum.
I must confess that I'm using an IBM ThinkPad T23 as my main computer at home, it is more than six years old but it does all what I need. :D

Perhaps the Clie forums should be merged? I am looking for a TH55 but have the NX60.

NO! lol. I don't think this should happen, as it would make things harder to find.
As for the TH55 being the last forum standing... the TH55 forum is slow too :(

True, enough. There are a few of us die-hards, and a couple of fresh newbies. However, eventually, all Clie's will be in the "Older Clie' category. :(

Why? It isn't like it is making 1src more complicated...
