Hi,,,
I have been a Clie user for years .. I had the TH55 for about 3 years now and I am thinking of getting something to replace it ..
With the Palm community not being as it used to be I am wondering if investing in another palm device like the TX is a good choice or should I move to those new fancy phone devices!!!
Size is an important factor.. I need for my PDA to fit in my coat pocket ..
My main use is as an organizer, running my medical apps and rarely internet browsing so Wifi and Bluetooth are important
Any ideas .. recommendations...
Thanx

If I were to replace my th55, I would, in order of preference:
1) buy another th55 :D (ebay or similar) !!
2) buy a TX brand new, with warranty extension.
3) buy a Palm Tungten T3 cheap on ebay
4) Switch back to pen and paper ... NOT! :p

I'd say keep the TH, the TX will only bring you headaches >.<

I've been helping a friend setting up his TX with some nice public domain software. I myself own a TH55. Now that I know both devices, I can only say this: steer clear of the TX. It 's a very disappointing device. It's battery life, though brand new, is far worse than my 4 year old TH55. It crashed on my maybe 10 times while I was installing software onto it. Although equipped with a faster CPU, it acts slower in most applications. And the digitiser acts weird, it kinda misaligns itself... I told my friend to return it, but I don't know if he has done so.

I've noticed that too. It looks as if only a small part of CPU were "dedicated" to the digitizer and that it has problem catching up with one's writing. Something you never ever would notice on a th55.
Which makes me think I should re-order my options:

I'd go for another TH55. If you need one, contact DanT. He's probably *the* most reliable source for TH55 units now :) (do I get a discount on my next TH55/E, Dan?)
I went through 3 TX units. The first one had a dust spot, the second had a dead pixel, while the third had a yellowish screen. Besides that, the TX just won't feel right in my hand. The LifeDrive actually fits better!

Wow, that's some dedication to have went through 3 TX's! I couldn't even use one, it just couldn't compare to the TH.

Thanks for the kind words (again) there Joel! You certainly would get a good discount. I have a mint TH55/E1 (with CLIE Organizer sticker still on it). Just PM me if you're interested. ;)

I've had my clie for two years and have not seen anything that can match ii for versatility and useability (if there's such a word). I would only recommend purchasing another TH55. My friend has purchased an Asus 639 and it's not as easy to use (nor palm). Good luck, go with the Clie!

The thing is I get to buy a new PDA for work.. So I said I might as well use the offer for a free PDA they are giving me.. Buying 2nd hand or used isn't an option they will only refund me on a new PDA from a shop..
I doubt that I will be giving up on my TH55 ,, Its been my companion for three years now and I dont think that I could live without it.. So until death do us apart I think we are a happy married couple :)
But the thing thats worrying me is that the Palm popularity seems to be diying with the new pocketpcs and blackberry out in the market..
Should I give any of these new devices a try??

In that case, go try the Treo. There's no harm in trying.
I have an unlocked Treo 650 running on prepaid. I'm never a heavy phone user so it's used as a PDA first, and a phone second. Funny really. But I must say, I love the keyboard!

Replaced my TH55 with a Dell Axim x51v (and with no regrets - beats the TH55 hands down in everything I need it for). Bad news: it's discontinued.
There's an Asus EEE PC coming out around mid-August that might be of interest. I know the price point is just  (in a good way). It's 7" and I believe it runs a compact Linux OS. They're going to retail it for $199 US or $299 US depending on the model.

All of the proposed $300+ UMPC's are way too big to be used as a PDA. However, something the size of the Nokia N800 (or a little bigger...) would be okay.

Nice, but what would be the price point for something like that? The o2 xda flame is through the roof (I've heard going for $1000+ for WM device-not umpc). I also wonder what HTC Advantage price point will be when it's released...

iPhone . . . 3rd party apps support? Maybe in about two years! Very limited in add-on applications, er uh widgits!
As an ex-TH55 Nutcase (owned 2 TH55s), and I still have one, I'm very happy with my Treo 700p smartphone. Having one device instead of a phone and PDA is great, and you get used to the smaller screen very quickly.

iPhone . . .
Nothing more than a POS (Piece of ****). Never understood the hype.

I honestly cannot get used to a smaller screen again. I had to do some things with my old T665C and I actually couldn't stand it. I'm currently working with a 3.7" VGA and it's great for ebooks, pics, movies, etc. I honestly CANNOT stand watching anything on a smaller screen. Unfortunately, it's great for you but not me.
I'm one of those that do not like converged devices. I currently own a PDA, phone and mp3 player. I'm rather a klutz and tend to drop things now and then. Could you imagine if I dropped a converged device and had to send it in for repair? I'd be out of both a phone and PDA. No, converged devices are not my style.
I'm not saying converged devices are a bad thing, it's just not my style. I'm still 'old-fashioned', I guess. I'm glad that the Treo is working out for you, but it's not my cup of tea.
Well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see what else is out there in the horizon... ;)

Let's also remember that the O2 XDA is only 320x240 res, half-vga, like all WM smartphones.
The above cited example is Win CE, not WM 5.0 or 6.0, HOWEVER, the screen res is 800x480 and the overall size of the unit is about right. I thought Win CE was ALL BUT DEAD, but evidently NOT...

Hi Tony,
The O2 XDA Flame is only available in Europe/Asia. Perhaps that's why you couldn't find the specs. I believe there are no plans of bringing it here though.
Of course, there have been dissatisfied users using this device. First off, it's extremely pricey. Secondly, they didn't use a higher capacity battery. Finally, the screen is not sharp or vibrant (what you would expect from a VGA screen); instead, it's said to be 'fuzzy'.
That's the info I gathered from a few places I've been reading up.
