View Full Version : Ideas for battery saving apps

I guess as my machine gets older (and especially as I use it more for GPS), extending the battery life becomes more important.

I had a couple of ideas for things that might help do that - and I mention them here in the very vain hope that they might be feasible and someone here might have the capability to implement them.

1. Backlight adjustment. Mostly I use it on full power (especially as it is not as bright as it used to be) but at the same time I am often awake at night. I wondered if an app could exist which automatically controls the backlight brightness depending on time of day. i.e. having a night and day setting, perhaps with hours the daytime applies to.

2. I think one big drain is unattended alarms. I have auto-off at 2 mins because I don't like it shutting down when I am using it. And I have alarms to repeat 3 times in succession. Sometimes I leave the machine in another room or go to sleep and then multiple alarms may go off, each multiple times, and each turning the screen on for 2 mins.
What would be cool is some separate control for backlight when alarms go off.
e.g. diable backlight for alarms, or perhaps change the auto-off period for alarms to a shorter period.

What would be the coolest thing of all is some future replacement backlight that was plug compatible but brighter and with less power consumption... LED?

How about an app to change the processor speed? This has already been done be fore and it helps your batteries quite a bit.

When use it on GPS on car, you can buy a Charger 12V to 5V USB Adapter, and a sync & Charge cable, then charge it at the same time ^^!
It's better than just use the power from battery ^^!

Doesn't the TH55 cpu already vary it's speed depending on load? I certainly don't want anything slower when I am using it - I wish the TH55 was faster - at least using apps like Pathaway.

Car? That's a rather expensive upgrade and also very un-environmental!
(I mainly use it walking.)

Oh.... Sorry I misunderstand you meaning by the GPS ^^!
So the Solar Cell will be a good choice for keep charging the battery?
Or this is the time to replace the battery?

If you decide to have the battery replaced, contact DanT. He fixed both my TH55 units and he's not at all expensive.

Thanks, I will bear that in mind but when I get to battery replacement time the temptation is going to be to install it myself because of problems shipping from here and the fact I would hate to deprive myself of the machine for long.

(Vincent - By the way I walk at night! - maybe I need a generator shoe ;-)
