View Full Version : Need ides on making TX water resistant

I have a TX and would like to know if anyone has given thought to making a TX somewhat water resistant. I'm not naive enough to think I'm going to make it water proof, just resistant.

I've already temporarily covered the earphone jack with clear tape and I've also thought of cutting the screen protector a little large so that it overlaps its frame and possibly prevent water from getting in around that frame. And I guess I could tape over a few other openings; but, has anyone given thought to this and maybe come up with better ideas.

To be clear, I do not want to use a cumbersome water-tight or under-water case. I want its controls to be just as easily accessible as it is now.

Is a Ziploc bag too cumbersome?

Check out Otterbox for maximum and Ziploc bag for minimum.

Doing unusual things with screen protector may affect recognition of stylus.

Hey, guys, I don't want to scuba with my TX. I just want to make it shed water a little better. You know, dripping sweat, light sprinkles or rain, etc.

Yes, the ziploc is more cumbersome than I want. I want it to still fit into my Piel Frama leather case and all the buttons be about as easily accessible as they always have been.

So far, I've found I can simply put clear tape over the buttons and they still work well. I don't use the earphone plug so covering it and the on/off button is easy. Looks like tape will solve most of the problems. I just wondered if anyone else had a better solution.

What about the effect of sweat on the Piel Frama? Mine is showing usage wear on the interior tan section where I hold it with my thumb while the cover is flipped back to read in landscape. Careful with the tape as it could lift the decals off the buttons.

Boy, that Peil Frama case is really nice, isn't it.

I understand sweat isn't necessarily good for the case; but, that's taking things a little far. The case functions well after many drops of sweat; but, it takes only one or two well-placed drops of sweat down that phone jack to kill the TX altogether.

I hear you about the stenciling; but, I think I can get along okay remembering what each button does.

It seems to me this sensivity to water may be a planned thing by Palm. It probably wouldn't add fifty cents to the cost of a Palm to encapsulate its circuit board by dipping it in a laquer-like coating.

Hi,
what about the AquaPaq? Its basically a Ziploc bag on steroids:

I was researching on the same thing for a digital camera and (sorry not having the name or brand). Yes, it was a ziplock like bag. It was a german-like name and it was a little pricey. Having the digital camera-bag experience take in count that the more you dive, the plastic gets into every tiny hole the more you dive (if you want to dive)

well cheys03, it might be, I'm not really sure, sorry. It was a long time since I read the article (1+year). Found several forums talking about the brand and tech notes about it. I just did a search to see if a name on the results ringed a bell with no luck but found this:

http://www.waterproofcases.net/wate...-pda-cases.html

but if you want the real deal, I found this:

The specially designed waterproof case for the Tx here: ($47.95)
http://www.extremepda.com/Merchant2...Store_Code=XPDA

It says you can still use the IRDA thing on the TX, but I doubt of any compatible sea life! It holds the stylus on the outside but I suggest another stylus tied with a nylon string.... to avoid dropping it

good luck

crazyman, That's some case. Your link doesn't work, though.

Here's one that does:

If I ever want to take it out in a boat without even having to fear dropping it in the water (it floats) or if I want to go swimming with my Palm, this'll do the trick.

Wow, sorry, I messed up the link... :( but glad you find the way around it.

cool case!

I just walked home from the pub in uk. It poured i got soaked, like drenched - everything. my tx was in my palm case (unmodded). there is some white residue and some hair from my lining on the case but the tx is untouched and safe!

it was in my top pocket so it was pretty wet.

also check out pelican cases - the film industry uses them heaps and they make cell and pda models.

A 'friend' of mine grabbed it once and tested its shock proofness by stamping on it with a size 12 boot a number of times - I told him it could fall from an aircraft! It was undameged but my t2 did turn on!
