Hi
I'd like to buy the Eruware CF card driver but I'm not sure if it works fine.
I read the faqs at Eruware but I'd like to learn from people who got the driver and work with it in "the real life".
Does anybody who have this driver can share a bit of his/her experience ? How does it work ? Can we record audio or movies or pictures directly to the CF card ? What does mean "masquerading"?Do you need an external USB read/writer CF adapter for transferring files to the PC ?
Thanks

I'm at the 'NOVICE' level and know what you mean ... I'm waiting for the registration key for the CF card driver thingy (!) and when I get everything going from my 'novice point of view' I'll let you know how things are ...

A card reader is definitely a plus right now, but that can change in the future. I pasted a link from the Compact Flash forum below. It all depeneds on your needs and application.

I have had the driver since it was released, it is easy to use and works fine with my Sandisk 1GB CF card and CLIE NZ90. Currently you can not record to the card even in masquerading mode, but I'm sure this will change as the driver evolves. Masquerading mode allows the CF card to take place of the memory stick as the primary removable device, this allows you to use software and files off the CF card as if it were the memory stick. For example if you put your MP3's on the CF card the CLIE audio player will not see them (at this time) so you turn on masquerading, this makes the CF card look like the primary memory stick, you can then access the MP3's using the built in player. Don't forget this driver is new and I'm sure it will grow as Eruware learns new uses and finds out more from the people who use it about what they use it for. For the price you get free updates for life, so as new support is added you won’t be left out… As for transfering infor to the card, as far as I know you can't do it through the CLIE (but I haven't tried) I myself got a Combo MS and CF card reader free when I bought the CF card, so I use it.
Welll, you can record images, at least I have no problems recording images to my SanDisk cards. BUT I can not record video files.
Also it is just as easy to use file manager to copy a large number of image files from the MemoryStick to the CF card.

Okay ... so far not so bad ...
I can send MP3s from my computer directly to the CF card via Hotsync ... just dump the MP3s into the usual INSTALL page and then "CHange Destination" to CF Card 2 (can anyone explain why the instructions say CF Card 2 and NOT just to CF Card?)?
Everything takes bloody AGES to download to the CF .... open Audio PLayer and GASP! SHOCK! nothing seems to be there ... on Audio Player bring up the menus and go to "OPTIONS" then "Transfer" .... dum dee dum ... wait a bit and then all your MP3s are there ...
I Still HATE the ay all the MP3s are displayed and there is no filing system but hopefully a greater intelligence than mine (probably my 2 year old son, then ... ) will sort that out one day.
I don't intend to use CF for anything other than MP3s and maybve movies.
It was still worth the 27 bucks!
Cheers,
Nick
Nick,
Gave up on the hotsync, purchase a cheap CF card reader instead and simply dump the files into the appropiate diretory on the CF card, this process is about 100 times faster.. (Well guessing here but it feels that way)

I use the card reader even for memory sticks... I guess I just like manipulating files in Windows as opposed to palm.
