View Full Version : want mail to only send, not sync!

I do not use my SJ30 for e-mail in the normal sense, but to compose an odd message or two to send out on next sync. I don't want to download messages, just use my Clie as a mail writer for those odd times.

I did figure out how to do this without downloading new messages, but I can't figure out how to stop hotsync from causing my mail client (Outlook Express) to execute a full send/receive for all 7 accounts I have set up in OE. This doesn't affect the Clie since new messages don't sync down to the Clie, BUT it is a problem on my laptop or desktop because I don't use OE to retrieve mail directly...I use MailWasher first to screen messages.

Is there a way to stop hotsync from causing the send/receive on OE? I currently have the plain-vanilla Clie Mail, but have also tried Iambic Mail, which did not have a send-only setting like Clie Mail. Is this problem inherent in all PDA mail clients/hotsync, and thus trying other programs won't help, or is there another mail client out there that would fix this?

Cheers,
Gary

I believe the problem belongs to Outlook Express's setting (not hotsyncing issue). Did you setup OE to automatically receive e-mails when it opens? Because when you hotsync, it will load the OE engine to look for your inbox, and, thus, OE will automatically fetch e-mails behind the wheel.

I suggest you to dis-able the mail conduits, or you can change the OE setting for permanent solution.

You may be right in OE being the problem, but I don't have OE set to auto receive. I may try it with Eudora or NetScape Mail when I get the chance. But the HotSync setup for mail wants whatever you set as your mail client to be set as the default mail client for windows, and I don't want to do that especially.

If I disable the mail conduit, then I can't send mail created on my Clie. Tried it, but the only way to get the Clie-created mail to the laptop/desktop is if syncronize the files is turned on, at least with Clie Mail.

I have tried Iambic Mail and SnapperMail as well. Neither helped, especially SnapperMail which only can send/receive directly off the Clie. Will try Mark/Space and others when I get a chance.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway!

Gary

After more testing, this issue does appear to be related to Outlook Express. At work, on my box with Outlook2000, everything behaves as it should...I can write an email on the SJ30 and send it during a sync, and it loads into Outlook's Outbox *without* causing all accounts to go through a mail check.

Guess I need to change mail clients on the laptop...
