Lets just say Palm is reading this and hears us out what apps we need on a Foleo for us to buy it.... or maybe Linux developers out there who have advanced access to a Foleo can work out apps for us... lets list them down.
Let me start...
1. Agendus Pro
2. Media Player
3. iTunes
4. IM app
Thats all i really ask for. Once i know we can get these apps in a Foleo (even if we have to pay for it), I'll be grabbing that Foleo once it comes out!!
I want the app that enables a touchscreen and allows it to be used as a tablet.

You may need to put your hands together in prayer for a cpu upgrade to allow the playback of video while wishing for the Media Player. :p

iTunes like app
Shiira or Shaara (sp?)..webbrowser, the one for the mac.
Photoshop like app
PIM apps
Winamp for video :)
If it can do that then that would be replacing my desktop..but I'm hoping for too much, Photoshop on this underpower device :(

I've not done much research on devices running linux. But wouldn't it be possible to install any linux apps on it? Such as GIMP, Open Office, etc? I'm planning on getting the Foleo so I'm looking into getting what apps I will want to get for it. I'm not sure where to look. freewarepalm was where i got nearly everything i use on my T5 and a few things I found out via here. Still no word on Palm keeping their word on the Pslm OS versions apps support on the linux OS? I remember reading shortly after I got my T% that we would be able to run the Palm OS software on their new linux devices. Anyways any links to linux device apps sites would be great.

Hi,
I would think something like Handbase or Smartlistogo would be a good option for this.
Other than that, I think Joel had a good list of categories up there.
People expecting video and Photoshop are not being realistic with the storage and horsepower limitations this will have.
Maybe Palm will ramp both of these to a point where more will be possible but then the price will be more and this creates other issue for potential customers.

ok, people, its running an ARM processor probably, so it cant run iTunes, shirrah, ect.
To be honest i just want the damn thing to run palm apps, thats all i need.
Also I dont know why you people keep insisting it isint powerful enough, the iphone runs a 600-700 mhz arm chip, so im sure the Foleo is running something at that speed or higher.

"Treo Today" reports these specs:
416MHz Intel / Marvell PXA27x processor
Marathon 2700G graphics accelerator with video output
Here 's the link (http://www.treotoday.net/2007/08/12/palm-foleo-specifications/).

I believe that is the same CPU as the T5 and I run 480x320 video at I believe 200 bitrate 15 fps video and 64 kbit/sec stereo mp3 audio with no overclocking. I would expect the Foleo to run video and play music just as good if not better than the T5. I really want to run my palm apps on it as well which is why they better have kept their word from some time back that they would make it possible. Although I am willing to look for linux based programs that do the same thing as the palm apps I have I'd much rather just use the ones I have. I have no clue where to look for linux based software to run on a linux based device. I had to come here as well to find good sources for palm based software because the sites were near impossible to find with the plethora of sites that show up in searches now a days.

Thank you!!
If my TT can play MPEG4 video than this thing can as well!

The CPU and graphics accelerator used n the Fleo indeed suggest that smooth video playback must be possible. For MP3 playback, there seems to be more than enough power under the hood. Let's not forget that the Foleo won't do multitasking, so all available resources are available to execute these tasks. Maybe the Foleo won't be such a disappointing device after all....

hehe
yeah but for the typical linux user (read: me) the ability to modify it and do things like install custom GUI's, ect is quite promising, I would really like to see this thing run KDE or GNOME.

No multitasking? I though the linux builds for PDAs were multitask capable? I was rather expecting that as its one thing I found would come in handy on occation while using my T5. While its not a necessity certain apps its kind of annoying having to click through several screens to resume where i was when frequent app switching is needed.

We'll have to wait and see I guess. But since it doesn't have a desktop of some kind (just a task switch menu), I fear for the worst.

so anyone else here think Pocket Tunes on it will be followed by other things?
I want it to have the Xine architecture.

Palm has shown they couldn't care less about what their users want.

True that may be, but it doesnt mean the open source community wont hack the heck out of it, I bet they will find ways to make it run standard palm software (if it doesnt when it is relased) and thats all you really need, that one thing would open all the doors.

I donīt mean to contradict anyone, but Palm cares what the "normal" user wants. Not "geeks" like us. Most users, not the ones that come to forums as we do, are delighted with their Palms and Treos, because they just work. Easy to learn, easy to run, just plain easy.
They install few third party applications, so they donīt have conflicts as we have (which by the way is something we like to deal with, no? :D).
