View Full Version : Time Selector Hack?

Over the last while (e.g. since going to the TX) I've been trying to get used to the inability to get 1 minute resolution in the calendar application. Other than this I have no need to go to a different application, it has the features I need.

I have tried selecttime with no success, I have tried Clock Selector, and it doesn't appeal to me, but I could probably get used to that if it weren't for the fact that it doesn't allow you to set a location. I rely on timezones in my appointments for the same main reason as I want 1 minute resolution, for flights.

Is there anything, hack or otherwise, that I could use to fill both needs?

Cheers,

The default calendar application on the TX does support time zones, but only 5 minute resolution events. Pimlico software's (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com) DateBk6 supports both 1 minute resolution calendar events and time zones. Has since DateBk3.

Thanks for the feedback. The built-in application has everything I need, so I'm not too inclined to pay the $28 just to select down to the minute.

If I remember correctly (I do not have my Palm on me at the moment to double check), the default calendar application application can display events that are set to a 1-minute resolution, but it cannot set the time to such. Therefore, if you sync against something other than Palm Desktop, you should be able to enter these events on the desktop and then sync them to the hand-held. You should be able to edit these events on the hand-held, just cannot change the times. If you do change the times, you will not be able to select a 1-minute resolution.

Yes, if I input times to the minute in MS Outlook's calendar (which I sync with my Palm) I CAN get the 1-minute resolution. This is important to me when I'm scheduling a flight and want to know that it's leaving at 6:13 PM...

I don't know if it plays nice with the TX, but the free KsDatebook allows you to input time at one-minute intervals. On my TE2, it unfortunately crashes if I try to use this feature (so it's disabled) but it worked great on earlier PDAs. I suspect it will not work correctly on the TX either, but there's no harm in trying. It's a great program in other ways, a great free improvement on the built-in calendar, and it uses the calendar's built-in databases rather than making its own. I do have it freeze up from time to time, unfortunately it's several years old and hasn't been maintained by the developer...

I used to think so too. I changed my mind :-) You really should try datebk6. (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/datebk6.htm) Floating appointments as an alternative to To Do's, icons, templates... it really is very very good.

Plus, you can use IconMgr (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodid=47054) to make your own icons if you want. It's amazing what you can achieve in a 20x20 pixel square.

One thing I will sincerely regret if (horror) Palm dies is the concomitant death of datebk6. It doesn't run on PPC :-(
